That sucks. It is frustrating when a repair can't be completed and you have to scramble to get home and all. :(

My car has been making a bad noise, and I've just been turning up the CD player to drown it out.

My car is making bad noise too. I turn down the modern music on the radio to lessen it.

There's so much noise in the music today that when I turn on the Dooby Noise Reduction nothing comes out of the speakers.

My car is idling really rough.

I thought it was bad gas and it still may be. Gas treatments improved it for a couple of days. I don't drive it much so that gas is going to be in there a minute longer.

It could be the plugs...Son's got to see if he can borrow a long socket to get to them.

Maybe I'll just dump some more gas treatment in there.

cars have been a huge source of stress throughout my life. I totally feel your pain.

right now the clutch on my car is all fucked up. My boyfriend replaced the master slave cylinder or some shit and it did okay for a total of 5 minutes then started fucking up again. sooo frustrating.

This is hard for me to relate to, but then again I know more about cars than I know about life.

Arienne, is your car smooth off idle and during acceleration? You might just have a lot of carbon buildup on the valves, not letting them seat properly or making them stick.

    Yes, Deviate...

And the problem has been kind of on and off since it started. The last two times I've taken it on a short run to the corner store it's done it. We will be taking a longer trip today so we will see how it acts then.

My husband was thinking that too, especially since we put the gas treatments in. He was thinking the cleaners may have loosened old gunk from the valves.

Thank you. I will have him look at the videos!

The fuel treatments don't really work, more of a gimmick than anything. You really need to put cleaners directly into the engine (2 different ways) while it's running in order to make any noticeable difference.

But if your check engine light is on and/or it's really stumbling, you have some more serious issues.

Deviate- how much is it supposed to usually cost to fix a head gasket? we got what I think was an outrageous price from one place and just haven't fixed the second car tho it's still inspected etc.. I know someone who does a lot w cars as more of a hobby tell me he can do it a lot cheaper but still not sure what we're gonna do w that car. would be nice tho in times like this to have a second car.
right now im waitin to see if the guy's gonna call n if not call over there in maybe 20 mins.

What kind of car? And I usually charge like 1200-1500 for a 4 cyl and anywhere up to 2000-2500 for a v engine. But I also do it the right way, and send the heads to a machine shop for a valve job and to be checked for warping or cracks. And put on a new timing belt if it has one. I would be really wary of someone who isn't a professional mechanic doing that kind of work on your car.

Is the light flashing? Sounds like you might have a bad ignition coil or something. I wouldn't drive it much, especially if flashing. That means it is misfiring to the point you will damage your catalytic converter.

Shit...No, the light is burning steady. It's not a horrendous stumbling...mostly it's a little bumpy, a little trembling...I mean the car isn't lunging and choking bad...just kind of rumbly...

    Sorry, I'm a girl. lol

I'm just going to add in here that in my years I've had LOTS and LOTS of problems with different cars I've had. DearGOD!!!! There is nothing worse, especially when having to deal with these mechanics who promise they will have such and such done by a certain day/time "for sure". Only to have them put you off...on and dang on until it suits them and then they charge WAY up, and the car STILL MIGHT MESS UP.

Deviate, what you said about making sure the right mechanic does the work is the absolute truth...and THEN for some things, even professional mechanics are subject to charge enough to put a kid through a year of community college and the problem(s) NOT BE FIXED. This happened to me!!! If I had my time to go over, I would have taken him to small claims court. He said he would "make it good", and then when I told him - "well, do it again...fix it!" He said, "well...I don't know if I can...that could cost you up in thousands more." That time a "reputable mechanic" did a valve job that DID NOT WORK. Problem with that is that I didn't have a man with me. For good or bad...honestly, when it comes to a mechanic and a single woman around here - the woman will get screwed without a kiss AND taken to the bank, and there isn't a dang thing she can do.

Another time I took a little Nissan truck I had that kept cutting off for no reason to this "reputable" garage...they kept her 1 week and charged me $300 - about 15 years ago. I won't go into what they claimed to have done and what they claimed was wrong, but they should have been writing fiction rather than doing mechanic work. The very day I got my truck and went to work, on the way home - in the black dark - it CUT OFF on the highway! I called them the next day to ask WTH (but with no curse words!) and was told to NEVER BRING MY VEHICLE BACK TO THEM. Again, I've learned...should have taken a man (any man would likely do) with me AND I should have taken their sorry asses to small claims court.

Now, I take my big son with me if I have to get work done. All he has had to do is to put in an appearance with me, and VOILA!, like magic...mechanics are nice and do right.
