Okay out of total curiosity I have been all over the information highway looking for folks who have cut off their dreads. Thank you you-tube!!! What I have found so far is this: They are tired of having hot ass itchy hair, their parents or careers, change in lifestyle Just where are all these people who have cut off their locks in a few years solely because of wax?????? Come out Come out where ever you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, most people i know cut theirs (wrong their/there/theyre?) off because they get fed up of them.. ive never met anyone who cut theirs off directly because of wax. saying that though, a few times ive spoken to people and said something like 'oh i combed mine out because i used wax' and they all look at me as if im crazy for even letting it near my hair
How the heck did you comb yours out Smelly? Im only at 6 months and I dont think I could comb mine out if I tried.
with a helluva lot of conditioner, and a helluva lot of patience. they were 6 months, they were FULL of wax (i shall post a pic if you want), took me 3 days.. about 5 hours a day. my sister helped me with one and then moaned that her arms hurt.. so i did it pretty much all by myself. i defo would not ever wanna do it again. ever. it also ruined my metal toothed comb, which is shite
At the moment i'm in Adelaide >map http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=adelaide,+australia&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=32.059939,79.101563&ie=UTF8&ll=-30.600094,138.603516&spn=34.449233,79.101563&z=4&iwloc=addr But i spent most of my time in Newcastle >map http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=newcastle,+australia&sll=-30.600094,138.603516&sspn=34.449233,79.101563&ie=UTF8&ll=-27.527758,151.787109&spn=33.619826,79.101562&z=4&iwloc=addr which is an awesome surf town, i miss it I put links in just incase you care Also, could you post a pick of your waxed up dreadies? I used wax in mine for the first month and hate to think about what's going on under there, but wanna find out
i shall google earth it all later, fear not =] hopefully in a few years ill be out in perth visiting my aunt & uncle, and then i intend to stay for a bit and travel <3 slight tangent there.. =D
Aloe vera gel (plain av gel no additives) works like your basic gel. (Has the same consistency as well.) It will hold but it's highly possible it will flake. Wax will hold but it's gummy and can pick up outside stuff. Mix the two together and presto. No flakes and great hold.
Did you try this beautifulwarrior? i would have thought that would make something that flakes, cakes and picks up dirt??? lol.
Yeah. Anytime I use wax it's very rarely plain wax. And if it is plain wax it's small amounts. If you soften the wax up a bit and then mix the gel in you can get something with a creamy consistency and it's easier to apply than wax.
Aloe is great for baby dreads. It will not make them loose. It will tame the frizzies, moisturize & strengthen your dreads. It rinses out easily and doesn't leave residue. Mould & Mildew remedies: Dry your dreads in the sun as often as possible. Add 1 cup of thyme to 1 quart of water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain and let it cool. Use as a rinse/soak for your dreads. Mix 1/4 cup water with 1/2 cup white vinegar and a few drops of tea tree and lavender essential oils in a spray bottle. Spray on your dreads-do not rinse out! The vinegar smell will dissappear as it evaporates.
Yeah, the wax slowed the early stages of my dreads for sure (I'll expand on this but I want to rummage through my pics to explain a little better). Yes I think I'd be where I am now without that choice, but would have reached this point sooner without it. I can't say anything for certain with regards to what may still be lurking in my dreads waiting to come back and haunt me in a few years though. My reason for starting this thread specifically...think I've tried to explain a few times now, wasn't to solve any puzzle for myself or find a final answer (since most of us feel it's a closed case), but to provide a broader and deeper discussion for anyone coming to this site for waxy answers. I'm sure I've explained it well enough earlier in the thread; sorry, my husband and I were just talking about the theory of relativity and time dilation in space and the general massive bigness of space, and my brain imploded lol and I can't seem to find my train of thought
