Oh and do you know what ELSE will suck about public transit? Apart from the fact that it'll widen commuting times by a factor of hours.... Is it means that the government run, inefficient, union bloated vermin who'll be running the show will have everyone by the short and curlies and will strike monthly for more pay. Did you know what the biggest threat to the I-5 is in Seattle? Buses. It is ILLEGAL to drive a commercial vehicle over a certain number of pounds per axle, cause it damages the roads. Buses however are exempt but have far in excess in terms of pounds per axle what the roads will withstand. Constant highway upgrades, anyone? What'll THAT do to commuting? Tell you what, why don't you just suggest we shut the economy down? Where will you get your wine and brie from then? This is almost as retarded as the moron who suggested we'll all telecommute. What will managers do then? They'll be irrelevant. So therefore they resist the move, unless the "telecommuting" is from India and results in them getting a big fat raise.
As i have already said now on numerous occasions, this thread was never aimed at Americans and Americans only. It was never an attack on America from Europe. Perhaps youre right, and my views will have changed in twenty years time. I just pray to God i dont become a short-sighted racist with a twisted complex against Europeans
You said you'd be honored to be from this nation, presently burning to the ground. I hear the unions that run the country are ticked as they planned to have their quarterly country-crippling round of strikes next week.
What i meant was you have singled out European people as a group as being different and inferior. This is prejudice in the same group as racism if it cannot be classed as racism itself. The intensity of your feelings towards Europeans also struck me. You almost sound Europhobic.
RE: What i meant was you have singled out European people as a group as being different and inferior. This is prejudice in the same group as racism if it cannot be classed as racism itself. I never said that. I said I was tired of their smugness, their arrogance, and suggested that they should tend to their own problems and stop commenting on us. And I wonder how "European" suddenly became a "race".
I cannot share my views about cars because some people a good few hundred miles away from me in Paris are having a riot? Do my views suddenly become invalid? You seem so insistant that single civilians cannot change things for the better in their countries. Tell me, what am i to do about the fires in France?
I could list all the derogatory terms you used to describe France, Europe and Europeans but it would take too long. Please re-read your own posts
RE: I cannot share my views about cars because some people a good few hundred miles away from me in Paris are having a riot? You can do what you wish! RE: Do my views suddenly become invalid? You seem so insistant that single civilians cannot change things for the better in their countries. Tell me, what am i to do about the fires in France? All I was saying was, I question the insight of someone who thinks the French can manage anything. They talk a lot about other people, but their trains never run on time and... oh yeah... it's on FIRE right now.
RE: I could list all the derogatory terms you used to describe France, Europe and Europeans Oh decidedly. I don't argue that. I take issue with you calling me a racist.
actually, i thought the ones who sounded preachy were the guys who see owning big cars and bikes as a sacred right.
Yeah. That's what we're saying. Now, we don't run two SUVs, a car and a bike. That's not as guzzling as many. But you can't get around two vehicles. Dunno what I'm going to do for the two to three weeks we get snow.
fair enough but i think the criticism is directed more to the ppl who don't give a fuck about conserving petrol.
No, its not what was said, but is nevertheless a very valid and serious point which i failed to mention in my first post. Running and owning more than one car will increase the amount of petrol used. Therefore both points tie together nicely.
I realise that we are not ready to completely get rid of cars(I dont know why were not ready, but were not)...But my real disgust lies with these people who own more than one car. These families who have a car per person. This there is just no excuse for...or certainly not enough excuses to go around almost every single family in a developed country. I totally agree with this, it is unexceptable to have more than one car especially if you live in a little town like I do. Which everyone has more than one car and for the most part more than two. It really makes me angry to think that people can walk and get what they want just as well as driving somewhere. So I think people should rethink about having more than one car
What is wrong with more than one car ? People have to get to point A to point B in a timely manner. I see nothing wrong with this, one person goes one way, the other person goes the other way, they NEED two seperate cars. It's not because they are greedy or whatever, it's because they need to go on with thier daily lives. I live 15 miles from work, I can't walk there in any type of timely manner, and a bus is all fine but when it takes me 2 hours to get from work to home, and it takes less than a half hour to drive, it's just more convienient.
