Have you tried cutting some of the stem off? I've cut all the stem off mine as I find it more comfortable. The cup uses a suction type thingy to seal itself inside, so maybe that's why you feel like air is trapped, it's not harmful though so don't worry. It took me a few times to get used to using my mooncup, and you do get the hang of it. Try again before giving up all hope and RELAX!! It makes it so much more difficult if you're freaking out!
I use the keeper and sea sponges. Sea sponges are so comfy though a pain to clean. I wanted to get some cloth lunapads. I hear those are the best.
I was using something like the mooncup. However, it never stayed in. It leaked something awful and would fall out. I tried using it while I was camping last weekend and it just made a mess of all my clothing. I had to switch back to tampons. It really sucked
Yeah I did cut about half of the stem off, but i don't wanna cut it all off. How do you get it back out without the stem, cause it sits quite tight through the suction?
this is all really confusing to me, I have never in my life heard of a mooncup...someone please explain...
druminmama, Medela, the breastpump company makes a device which can emulate a small autoclave (steam sterilizers hospitals and dentists use) but with no pressure. You put your stuff, I am sure a Moon cup would be fine, into the bag, with two oz of water and nuke it for 3-5 minutes. We use them on breastpump kits and nipple sheilds, even with premie babies, so it works really well to kill bacteria. www.medela.com They are called Quick Clean Micro Steam Bags. You can use them 20 times before you need a new one. They are available in boxes of 5. I need to ask a question. I have endometriosis. I can't wear tampons, I can't wear a sponge contraceptive or anything else in my yoni, because of the increase of cramping. Does anyone know if the Mooncup would also cause or increase pain for me? I'd like to give it a try, as I am often too lazy to use my home made cotton pads and end up with earth unfreindly stuff.
When I recall it correctly, it said something about endometriosis on the mooncup FAQs. They said that you should talk about it with your doc. I have been agains reusable things like sponges for hygienic reasons. But after thinking about mooncup, I think I am going to try it! I think it is a lot cleaner then even tampons, if you sterilize it.
It's easy enough to pull the mooncup out without the stem (that's what the ridges at the bottom are for), it also helps if you 'bear down' a bit. I found a live journal site which helped me loads when I first started using my mooncup, maybe you'll find it helpful too... http://www.livejournal.com/community/menstrual_cups/ I still go there every now and then, everyone is very open and sometimes things discussed might be too much for some people - just a warning!
