Any experience with this drug. I'm looking for something a bit better than caffeine to add to a nootropic stack to give me focus and help me study for longer periods. I know there's adderall but I'd really rather not go down the road of amphetamines and other hardcore stims. My biggest concern is will I be able to sleep if I take some, if I took an adderall tablet in the morning I probably wouldn't be able to sleep that night and would just end up redosing. Also, I don't want something too habit forming that leads to compulsive redosing where I never get any sleep.
I actually will be getting to sample some modafinil soon, so I will post back when I do. Although I don't think I can give you any good advice about sleeping on drugs - I've taken 25mg adderall around 8PM and gone to sleep at 2AM, haha. Adderall sleep is really weird though.. Anyway, if you get a chance to try it before I do, let me know what you think!
I finally got a chance to try modafinil today. So far I took 200mg (roughly 2/3 of a pill, then about 2.5 hours later I took the other 1/3. In total the pill was 200mg). I feel a nice sort of.. stimulation but without stimulation. I'm more motivated, interested, and on the ball. Apparently the half life is decently long (15 hours for one of the enantiomers, the other is a few hours), so I'll report back about how I feel concerning sleep a bit later tonight. It has been about 6 hours since dosing the first 2/3 and I feel like I could sleep if I wanted to. The first hour and a half was definitely very sleepy feeling, haha.

R-Modafinil is the one with the long half life. S has a short half life. The R enantiomer seems to be more potent or responsible for most of the stimulant effects but I can't find much info on how this drug actually works, so racemic (just regular modafinil) might be better, the S-enantiomer AFAIK is not inactive, it might actually smooth out the experience and make it a more well rounded effect profile. Only way to tell really is to try both, or read other people's reports but it's hard to really tell from what other people say what it's gonna be like. Stimulation without stimulation more motivated and interested ... see that sounds kinda like what I'm looking for. I want a stimulant for those reasons, but I don't want it to make me into a tweaker or cracked out or anything you know. I do worry about sleeping, I have insomnia and definitely have trouble sleeping on any type of amphetamine for a long time. If I had a benzo it might be okay, modafinil isn't an amphetamine ... I've read where people have said they went to sleep and woke up and were still "on it" when they woke up so idk. It seems kind of expensive compared to some of the other drugs I buy, but when I really looked at it it's really no more expensive than an energy drink a day. Usually when you purchase powder it's way cheaper, but I haven't been able to find a source for modafinil powder, only RC modafinil analogues, which I'd rather not fuck with at least until I've tried modafinil, and would have some idea of what to expect but RCs can be sketchy these days especially stimulant ones. Hopefully I get to try it soon, when I'm willing to touch my bitcoins ... i meant to post this last night, but DNS was broken so I saved the message #_#
So I ended up taking another 100mg last night and it was probably a bad idea.. so that is a total of 300mg starting at about 1PM. Around 3AM I was able to fall asleep with little problems but I had some really weird sleep. Amphetamine sleep doesn't bother me like the modafinil sleep did. I was definitely still "on it" when I woke up, but like I said.. long half life and I started late/spaced out the dosages. Interesting what you say about S-isomer rounding the experience off a bit. I'm not quite sure what brand/isomer blend I have exactly, but it is definitely a pill. Next time I try modafinil I'll be doing like the friend who hooked me up with these recommended - wake up an hour before my real wake up time, dose around 100mg, back to sleep and then wake up and go. It isn't quite as motivating as amphetamines are, but maybe it would work well if one were to be well rested before dosing. Definitely interesting that so little is known about it's mechanism of action. The molecule reminds me a bit of amphetamine, so I could see it blocking dopamine re-uptake like amphetamine would (which is about the furthest extent of a mechanism I could dig up). Maybe it doesn't cause DA release, though, which would make it a bit less of a double whammy than amphetamines.
Modafinil is the racemic form with both isomers. R-isomer is called Armodafinil. I think it has some type of action on dopamine system like somewhat like amphetamines, but from what I've read it's thought to be too insignificant to account for most of it's effects, and that most of the effects come from a combination of that and other mechanisms of action.
This shit... omg Okay, I was finally able to try this pharm a few days ago. 200mg tablets of Modalert manufactured my Sun Pharma. So I take one tablet and await the effects. At 10 minutes in, I could definitely feel I was on something, and that it wasn't placebo. At 15 to 30 minutes I could feel the stimulant effects and needed something to do, so I practiced some math. Mild hand tremeors means I made a lot of mistakes due to shitty handwriting, resulting in complex irrational solutions where the solution should have been rational. These mistakes sometimes happen anyway, due to accidentally flipping a sign here or there, and such things. I had previously intended to write some code, but had no idea of what kind of project to start so instead used the energy and motivation to practice with the goal of increasing my math skills and understanding. I started to write a "trip report" but this is as far as I made it T + 0:00: Took one 200mg tablet with a glass of water in a fasted state. The only other drugs in my system is 158mg caffeine from a can of "Monster Rehab" I drank about an hour or so prior and 1000mg of L-tyrosine which I took about 5mins after the modafinil, which I take daily. T + 0:08: Less than 10 minutes in I think I can feel something. It could be placebo but I do feel generally "better" than before. I felt pretty horrible before, a victim of poor sleep and caffeine dependence. T + 0:10: Exactly ten minutes in. I have determined that this is not placebo. I now feel "better than normal", the feeling is similar to the first alert feelings of an amphetamine. T + 0:15: Place 33mg of noopept under my tongue. Notice what looks like some mild vasoconstriction, and feel a bit cold suddenely. Fingertips are cold as well as some mild tremors so I turn up the thermostat. T + 0:30: I go to practice some math. Writing skills are somewhat degraded. Fuck, I just broke the lead. I have to really try to slow down so that my writing is legible. (1 - sqrt(-47))/-2, (1 + sqrt(-47))/-2. Ugh ... complex numbers and a negative denominator. i -(1 - i(sqrt(47)))/2, -(1 + i(sqrt(47)))/2 ... I fucked up somewhere. This has a real solution, I see a minus sign where it shouldn't be. I'm starting over. Best to just simplify shit in my head immediately if I can, with my handwriting right now ... okay, it's really -3,4 200mg actually felt quite strong to me, not what I expected from one pill. Despite the half life being about 15 hours, sleep wasn't possible (other than closing my eyes lying as still as possible) for around 30 hrs after after dosing no matter how much I wanted to (and I surely felt like sleeping at that point). I did notice some tachycardia, and in my experience if my heart is beating fast, I'm not gonna sleep. Didn't have any benzos, but when I finally obtained some (after getting very shitty short sleep), the benzo did cure any residual shitty feeling resulting from the sleep deprivation. Next time I try this thing, benzos will be on hand. I did have an energy drink before dosing, and then about 15minutes in decide to dose 33mg of noopept (a nootropic) sublingually. I have read that caffeine potentiates modafinil, not sure about the noopept. I do know that noopept, and nootropics in general seem to act synergistically with caffeine. but all have short half life compared to modafinil, caffeine being the longest of them (iirc caffeine half-life is about 6 hours) I did notice that the first 4 hours went pretty hard and was the most amphetamine like phase, after that it just went on and on, the intensity level then gradually tapering until the point where the userful effects were gone 12-15 hrs and felt tired, but sleep still wouldn't come (i have issues sleeping on most drugs that aren't sedatives, often even after the drugs effects are over) Next time I'll try a lower dose, maybe 100mg (half a tablet), until I figure this one out respective of how it affects me. There were some amphetamine type effects (as well as sides), though nothing compared to amphetamines proper in the side effects department. I never really had the urge to redose like on amphetamines which is a huge plus. It does suppress appetite, but not to the degree of amphetamines. 200mg was a bit too much like tweaking, and mild anxiety and mild paranoia crept in at times during the end. I was truly worried about how long this was going to last. Next time I will try 100mg, and see how that works, decrease from there maybe if necessary and get a good feel about how different doses affect me. I'm glad I didn't take more than 200mg, things could have gotten rough, also, take this as early as possible in the day as you can, preferably right after awakening because this stuff lasts a LONG time. I actually wish it could last a bit shorter.
I've found modafinil to be a great drug to have on hand, especially those with sleep-wake issues, or that deal with sleep deprivation. It really helps me get the fuck out of bed, meaning I can get up earlier, and get more done before the day. It's relevant to note that even without modafinil, I can get up early, but I will have absolutely zero energy and motivation to accomplish any work that is the slightest bit involved due to my specific circadian rhythm disorder. I'd suggest starting off at 100mg, or even a bit less your first time to see how it affects you. I jumped right in my first time with a whole 200mg tablet (and somewhat late in the afternoon) and it was a bit much, couldn't sleep for 48 hour; it may be worth mentinioning that I was probably in the beginning stages of benzo withdrawal, which probably at least partially explains the inability to sleep despite being miserably tired. I've taken 200mg a few times since then with no such issues. I usually find 100mg to be sufficient. I do suggest that this drug be taken EARLY in the day, or you risk insomnia. I probably wouldn't suggest taking it any later than noon, but it depends on the person. It seems to help my sleep issues, by using a combination of sedatives at night to TRY to get to sleep at a reasonable time, and then a stimulant such as modafinil in the morning to get me going, since I am likely to be very lethargic due to sleep deprivation and might spend an entire hour hitting the snooze button on my alarm clock. With modafinil, I can wake up much faster and actually feel like I have some energy.
