    True

I'm Cherokee, and although I am "settled" into a lifestyle that suits me, I'm always willing to give a try with something new. "fixed in your ways" is a deceptive phrase. At my age I really have "been there done that," tried many things that just didn't work out and I've found my "niche" so to speak. I do realize that "my way" is likely not yours.

Not really. My parents taught me to be an individual and think for myself. They also taught me the value of honesty. They taught me that "the American Way" is having the freedom to be as I choose and to allow others the same right.

My patriotism comes from my sense of community. I see a nation as a community of people working together for a common good, the old "united we stand" thing.

Far from it. I had very few rules, in fact at 16 I got my first car and had no curfew like my friends had and I was allowed to do pretty much as I pleased, within reason. They did, however, make their expectations of me quite clear, honesty, integrity and at least a high school education.

I welcome change if it's seems good, go along with it if it doesn't appear harmful and allow others the freedom to make their own choices and mistakes.

One of my favorite past times is relating with people from other cultures and with different values. I enjoy exploring new things, and as far as the "old ways," some are good but many are not; most are simply personal choice.

I've had 6 decades to form my own opinions, but I realize that those opinions are the result of my experiences, which are much different from yours.

When you discuss with me in these forums I give open and honest responses and opinions and I don't think it's too much to ask that others do the same. When someone (PRETY) posts multiple negative statements about my "community" I don't think it's too much to ask where this person is from. By not doing so they leave me, and others, at an unfair disadvantage, and by refusing to divulge his/her citizenship I think he/she is being less than open and honest.

If you disagree, that's fine, you're welcome to your opinion.

    No worries mate.

My father is Cherokee and my mother is a mongrel white (not meant to be derogatory) with ancestors from all over Europe. Her maiden name traces back to France where the family fled the guillotine for speaking out against the government. I choose to identify with my Cherokee heritage because it fits my upbringing and beliefs more so than white America.

My parents were entrenched in the white community because my father was a businessman. I was raised by example rather than a strict set of rules. My mother took me to church when I was very young, but as soon as I told her I didn't want to go, I didn't. My father never mentioned god or religion and seemed quite content to allow others their beliefs, including me and my siblings.

The first lesson on race I can remember was a statement by my father, "I don't care what a man's color is so long as his money is green." From what I remember, it was a flippant statement to someone who had made a derogatory remark about blacks.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of an organized group and my suspicions were of a Middle East origin. One of the give-a-ways is a hit and run posting with no replies to criticism.

I actually agree with some of what they posted, but their refusal to engage in conversation makes it seem more like propaganda.

Your post lit up that little light bulb in my brain.

China is by no means the only body that has stooped to such levels.
It's a simple, cheap and effective method of propaganda.

Various companies do/have done it as well, though they tend to stop when publicly caught out on it.

Please refrain from personal attacks like this. I've read enough of a variety of posts here by madcap to conclude that one thing he most certainly does not suffer from is a limited IQ. You're certainly allowed to have a difference of opinion with anyone here but if you have issues with his sources then express your disagreement illuminating your specific issues with them and not by launching personal attacks.

Funny you mention Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in the same breath as U.S. moral values. Let's talk about all of the young Muslim women, as young as 12, being brought to America for reconstructive surgery because their husbands and/or families mutilated their faces. And, how about the female genital mutilation that goes on throughout the Muslim world. From what I've seen, Muslims torture and kill their women and seem to derive enjoyment from it.

How about the tribal areas of Pakistan (Waziristan) where they are harboring Bin Laden and other terrorists. And if I talked to the average man on the street in India, would he extol the virtues of Pakistan?

Yes, let's talk about these Muslim countries you say are so virtuous. Let's talk about strapping a bomb around their waist, going into a marketplace and killing their own people, including women and children, because they don't like Americans. Let's talk about religious leaders who teach that mass murder is the path to heaven.

You come into this forum and post "hit and run" comments, but can you actually carry on a debate? Can you support the claims you make?

You say MadCap has a low IQ, show your's by defending the statements you made. You can man up and take my challenge, or slink away into obscurity. If you choose to to remain silent your posts here will become less than meaningless fodder for forum jokes.

Got to thinking about that "50_Cent_Party" in China. It reminds me of the Tea Party bloggers here, only they're duped into doing it for free.

Maybe... I have excellent information that places both in the UK- somewhat neighboring towns.... Sheffield and Manchester.

More likely cohorts looking to do a bit of team trolling for our consumption... perhaps a bit of what's alluded to here.

    Hello Barefooted in Iowa.

My, where to start; you have combined quite a few issues in your original post.

Do I fear becoming a minority in America? I feel like I am already a minority here perhaps less from a racial perspective then a socio-political or other perspective. I do not fear being a racial minority. The Sixties are long over and racial perspectives and issues have changed a lot since those days.

As far as “demonizing” by race, let me slow you down a bit. To join the issue of demographic change in America with judgment and critique of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party is a bit of a reach.

I feel that my ability to judge the actions of the rulers of a command state is a god given right. That this judgment does not apply to the citizens of such state due to the fact that they are denied the ability to participate in the political process of said command state.

Any potential criticism of a dictatorship is without racial overtones because The Chinese People themselves are not under criticism, being held hostage to the same junta that threatens Taiwan or oppresses Tibet. One can offer pointed criticism without “demonizing”

I am not asking China to “kowtow” just to be a good world citizen, stop propping-up the killer. Kim Jung IL in Korea. Cease supporting a government in Sudan that is killing its citizens in Darfur. Stop stroking the junta in Iran and insist that they abide by their commitments to nuclear disengagement. None of this should be viewed through a racial prism.

I do have an idea what it is like to be pulled over for a credentials check, to see a cop sniffing like a dog to sense if marijuana is being smoked in the car, to have my car, trunk and ash-tray searched for evidence of marijuana . I do not see any crusading journalist’s civil libertarians fighting for my rights on this issue. I have got to produce my identification all the time at the library, liquor store, airport, anywhere but a polling place.
So- far I have had the grace not to pull a Gates and to go off on somebody checking my I.D. Nor do I feel that I am under “attack” to be asked to produce identification.

How nice that you are giving Carte blanche to the actions of The Chinese Government. Tell me are there any issues that you do reserve judgment for?

i'm not seeing any actual evidence to lead anyone to believe that anglos or any other types of whites are demonising racial minorities in this country on a largescale. this is humorous coming from a forum user who loves china so much, yet refuses to go live there themselves.

That’s because you’re white, privileged, and blind to the subtle racism endemic in our society

Tonight at 10:00 est. ABC Television will present a show called What Would You Do

Paid actors will pretend to be couples engaging in domestic abuse.

Some couples are of the same race while some others are mixed; just watch the reaction of bystanders when the black guy hits his white girlfriend/wife compared to the other couples of the same race

By the very color of his skin he’s awarded certain privileges not granted to minorities.

For instance when comes to bank loans and financing whites are often less scrutinized than minorities.

i can guarantee you that not all of us white people are awarded special privileges, at least i have seen no evidence of this

can you tell me what they might be? i haven't gotten mine yet...

as far as getting bank loans goes, the last time i even tried to open a simple checking account, i was turned down

the statement that because a person is white they have privileges is in itself a bit racist, don't you think?

[just call me poor white trash]
