In SantaBarbara California there is a desalnation plant and people drink water from the ocean.

What is so wrong with the Flint River that the local government could not treat the water?

They could have treated the water... it was deemed too expensive by those in charge. I think it was about $100 a month.

Pretty disturbing that this is not adequately being solved yet.

Attachment fron The Guardian concerning lead water lines
Revealed: US cities refusing to replace toxic lead water pipes unless residents pay

Our friends at The Guardian, put a bit of political spin on this widespread issue.

And Yes, If I want to replace my personal water feeder line, or my sewer line to the main it will be at my cost. Just like if I remove a heating oil tank.
Its the same all over and its not racism, its a homeowner responsibility.

My beef is thus: If and when these properties sell, and the purchaser has to renew a Certificate of Occupancy, why does the town renew the
C of O.? The town is covering up the issue.

When The Purchaser applies for a purchase mortgage, why doesent the Real Estate Appraiser "Ding" the property for the lead feed line.
How about home inspection companies? Do they make note? Are FNMA & FHLMC complacent in allowing these burdened properties to pass title to a new owner?

These are older homes in older towns. Here in New Jersey, Newark is showing the way with a feeder line replacement.

Newark is a ‘model city’ when it comes to replacing lead water lines | Opinion
