My mom just informed me she's getting rid of the microwave soon. I think it's a great microwave! But she also informed me it's 30+ years old! I don't think it looks too weird.. What do yours look like??
I also thought that it would be a thread about how much Pressed_Rat hates microwaves. My grandfather has a microwave very similar to yours. He was going to get rid of it but was told by a microwave salesperson (lol) to keep it because microwave technology hasn't changed much in the past several years.
PR, you are more than welcome to go off about them ( haven't heard your speech), but I assume that means you don't have a picture to share
I have a combi microwave and I am pretty fond of it. About four years old, white and I think it still can pass as trendy
The chinese medicine perspective about microwave ovens is that they are bad for your health. There seems to be some evidence to back that up too. Convenient as all hell though.
I had a 1st gen microwave and it lasted 25yrs. Heavy as all hell and built like a tank. I think it was the analog timer on mine that wore out rather than the generator. OP's is a 1st gen digital by the look of it. Very nice . Don't let that go. Try to score it from your mother. It is the (re)heating of protiens in particular that is possibly a problem with them.
My grandma used to have a microwave similar to yours, sunshine. We used to joke that we were basking in the glow of the radiation when she used it.
There is nothing dangerous about microwaves. Infact there will be less pyrolysis in a microwave. See those little holes in the front that allow you to see in? Microwaves are too big to come through those holes cuz the wavelength is bigger than the hole but light can come through because lights wavelenght is much smaller than the holes. Microwaves use less energy to cook than other means also so they're not bad, very fast too.
30 Year Old 42 Litre Panasonic Here, Display Is A Bit Dim But Otherwise Perfect, And If Something Does Go Wrong I Was Given Another One For Spares From Someone Who Updated Their Kitchen And Thought The Oven Looked Too Old For It... Cheers Glen.
my microwave is a hand me down from my sister. I have no idea how old it is, it looks modern enough but I have to cook everything for twice as long as any other microwave I've ever used. I don't use it very often though. I'm not really worried about the health implications of microwaves, I just prefer to reheat food in the oven because it tastes a lot better that way.
i don't know, it looks like a standard, semi-modern microwave. small white thing, about 10 years old. in pretty good condition because i don't use it too often and when i do, i leave it open until it dries out. the microwave at work looks vaguely similar to the one in the OP, just a few generations older. the door opens from the top like an oven, and there is a turn-dial to set the timer rather than those newfangled button thingamajigs.
I don't like microwaves because they heat food unevenly, and when you superheat food, you're going to destroy a lot of the nutrients. So I usually stick to heating my food on the stove or in the oven. Radiation isn't an issue, I simply think microwaves are one of the more unhealthy ways of heating up/cooking food.
Well at least its got a touch pad. I remember having one with a dial for the timer. Those old microwaves had more punch and warmed food faster.
This thread doesn't deliver. I think we all want to see Pressed_Rat rant about them, even though nobody says it.
