Microsoft And AMD May Be Designing A Custom Surface Arm CPU With RDNA 2 GPU | HotHardware Microsoft is famous for their expertise in making keyboards, mice, and the Xbox, only because they put in decades of effort to get it right. That included funding AMD to produce the Zen chips, knowing damned well that Intel had driven them to the verge of bankruptcy. However, their Surface Pros have turned out to be pretty good for housewives and people who want a laptop that weighs nothing, and is slow as molasses, making it relatively cheap to buy. Frame rates and responsiveness are rapidly becoming non-issues for any kind of laptop, and we'll have to wait and see how bad this thing is for gaming, but I doubt it will play Crysis. With Nvidia and everyone else attempt to produce their own laptops, Microsoft has to pick up the pace, or dump them altogether, but this is exactly the race-to-the-bottom we need, that can blur the lines between laptops and oversized gadgets. More interesting still, will be when VR glasses get an upgrade in few years, using metalens technology that brings their promise of sunglasses with real attitude.
