Microsoft may have finally made quantum computing useful (msn.com) This is one of those releases that smells like manipulating the markets. Its just a stupid algorithm, but one they likely spent some money on developing years ago, and sat on, because they're spending an obscene amount of money on researching their own topological quantum computer. Their algorithm merely makes the existing supercooled computers more competitive, while Microsoft wants their research. Even if their own topological computer doesn't require supercooling, it still obeys similar quantum mechanics. Releases like this bother me sometimes, because its also a sign the US industry is picking up the pace, in a war with China and Russia.
