You know another thing that I am kind of proud of and wouldn't change, is that I live in Michigan. Michigan isn't perfect. No place is. And it tends to be dominated by Republicans. But not always. Gretchen Whitmer, our governor since 2019, is a Democrat. But they say Republicans tend to dominate things here. But at least they are not controlled by the far right. (Although last I heard the far right is making inroads in the Republican party here.)

But Michigan has always been forward thinking and open minded. They say in some places in the South their heritage is one of racism and intolerance. They do things like erect statues to Robert E. Lee. That has never been the case here. We were the first place in the English speaking world to outlaw the death penalty. And we've never had it as a state. We've never had segregation or racist laws. The Michigan constitution of 1963, our current one, outlaws discrimination. And the 1908 one before it guaranteed equal protection under the law. And even Abraham Lincoln famously said "Thank God for Michigan" in 1861 for our support during the Civil War. About a quarter of Union soldiers were from Michigan.
