Metallica is the best for me, they have meanings and messages in their songs.

I wish people would listen to metal music for more than one second and throw it away. I mean I go to school and everyone is like "you like that satan shit metal". This is complete ignorance by the asses who think they know what metal is about. one kid had the audacity to say "I love all forms of music just not that stupid shred stuff." I like hardcore and grind core better. But not napalm death more like pig destroyer." My response was "You dont like talent?" They here one band and assume all of the bands sound like them. One kid had the audacity to say I like all forms of musci I mean come one dave mustaine is like christian bad ass of the year. Then we have so many metal bands that just tell stories and give a message. I guess if you have a disstorted guitar some double bass and a angry singer your evil satan music that should be doomed to existence. Plus whats wrong with evil satan music?

I am not going to lie. That post confused the shit out of me. You want people to throw away their taste in music? That alone doesen't really make much sense but riddle me this. Who are you to say you know what metal is all about? Everyone has different opinions and there isn't anything wrong with that. Unless of course it conflicts with my opinions in which case the strength behind their opinion is effectively nulled.

I think people that give all music a chance are the only people that know what music is. Black metal in general is very hypicritical in the way they feel the need to act superior and to claim their form of music is the most pure and everyone else is just closed minded when in fact they are the ones that are too close minded to listen to anything else. I would like to say I know not all tr00 kvlt black metalers are like that but anyone in the scene knows a majority are. I have dealt with it all too much.

I got what you were talking about, roughly, I guess, but not what sparked that post, since none of us here dislike metal (or we wouldn't be here - right?).

    But you're right of course.

And I like the quote in your signature.

yea, to me it's all about the overall sound, you said it dude. pantera is just heavier and angrier than the rest and as an outlet they serve the purpose more than any of the others. creatively, musically, emotionally... if pantera used to be cheesy they weren't by the time they broke up; they were matured and perfected their sound while megadeth, metallica and slayer have changed for the worse. megadeth and slayer doing more of a poppy nu-metal thing while metallica just plain cheesing it up blues/rock-style. pantera just got heavier and heavier the longer they ran.

Slayer never did it for me. It's like with Pink Floyd, everyone's always going on about them but both can't hold my interest for over a minute or three.

Pantera... well, suffice it to say I prefer 'Power metal' over anything that came after.

I've listened to massive amounts of Metallica for years, and though I don't listen to them much anymore I still like their songs. I have no problem with Load and Reload either, I think they're very decent rock albums.

Megadeth's cool too - no more, no less.

I can't help but disagree with this. In no way, shape or form has Pantera offered anything heavier than Megaderth's Killing is my Business - Rust In Peace albums, or offerings from the other bands mentioned.

Pantera evolved from something less than "great" while the other bands evolved into it, but who's to say what new pantera would sound like? Damageplan anyone?

I don't think it's the point what a new Pantera would sound like, nobody could know that anyway.

Of course nobody could know that, so how can anybody use that as something over the other bands. Sure, they didn't evolve into something less that wicked, but who's to say where they were heading. They very well could have adapted a metalcore sound and therefore followed to a "T" the formula laid forth by the other bands in this poll. In comparison, the Pantera that has become popular was with us a very short time (I'm not counting the glam days, as hardly anyone even knows of such a time) so we may well have witnessed their golden era, and perhaps they self destructed before entering a slum in their releases.

I think pantera wouldnt of ever pushed out any new records due to the fact of phil's attitude. So I think even saying they would make another album is hoping for the best...But I guess it doesnt matter now does it.

In ten years time, Phil will be a living wreck and MTV will make a reality show around him.

I saw slayer yesterday at their first unholy alliance concert in europe. their performance was one of the heaviest shows i have ever attended. to me slayer if the heaviest old-skool trash bands ever, you really can distinguish a real hardcore punk influence in their sound.
but then again, i haven't heared many trash bands so far.
