Get the fuck out of here NOW. You obviously lack vital knowledge. You obviously lack vital understanding of the genre. Mass musical aspects aside; screaming is destroying Metal. Deep fuck off growls are where it's at, namely from vocalists such as Glen Benton, Dez Fafara, Randy Blythe, Phil from Dry Kill Logic, the vocalists in Nile, Necrophagist, Berzerker.... Get back to your pop punk roots man.
I like screaming, as in black metal vocals, but not like in hardcore/screamo etc. Overall I don't listen to a lot of metal that has mainly clean vocals, except for: Iced Earth Blind Guardian Sabaton Even though I don't listen to them often, I also like Candlemass. I think they're a good choice if you want some refuge from all those all-too-happy power metal bands everybody including myself is recommending you. They're epic doom metal from before the genre incorporated death metal vocals and gothic synthesiser effects.
Hmm.. Firstly, Nightwish will be better off without Tarja, and Tarja is already better off without Nightwish, as she's getting personal exposure and there's anticipation building about her solo career. Not sure what you're meaning by "no screaming" as there's quite a range of possibilities when it comes to what people take as "screaming". I also don't think one should set such limitations on what they're willing to try out. Maybe some style will stand out for you. I'll list a bunch of noteworthy bands, some may have been mentioned already, and some may not be the most extreme of metal. Alice in Chains - Not so heavy, but still "heavy" as fuck. Annihilator - Canadian thrash metal, kickass guitar, shitty vocals. Anthrax - One of the best thrash bands around, classics. Behemoth - Heavy as fuck, though I doubt you'll like the vocals. Black Label Society - Clean vocals, Zakk Wylde on guitar, check this out. Black Sabbath - Need I say more? Blind Guardian - Power metal legends, clean vocals, great guitar work. Blind Illusion - Les Claypool's humble thrash band. Bloodbath - Death metal. worth a try. Body Count - Ice T's metal band. Carcass - Thinking along the line of Swansong, not screaming vocals, but def not clean. Celtic Frost - Heavy as fuck. Not screaming, its more of a yell. Coroner - Wicked thrash metal. Corrosion of Conformity - Kickass Heavy Metal. Clean vocals, good riffs. Danzig - The voice of the era when Misfits didn't suck. Death - Scream'ish vocals, amazing band. Death Angel - Heavy as fuck thrash, with CLEAN vocals. Deicide - Just listen to these guys, what death metal should be. Demons & Wizards - Iced Earth shredder & Blind Guardian's voice combined. Destruction - More wicked fucking thrash. Dio - put this one right up with Black Sabbath. Dissection - Jon was a crazy fucker, but this was a good band. Down - Wicked band, Phil and Rex from Pantera, Pepper from C.O.C. Dream Theater - A band's band, great musicianship, not a personal favorite though. Ensiferum - Folk / Viking metal, clean'ish vocals for the most part, pretty good stuff Exodus - American thrash metal at it's finest. Extreme Noise Terror - you won't like them, but expand your experiences.... Folkearth - More of that Folk metal schtic Iron Maiden - Pretty essential for most metalheads. Newer stuff is best left unheard though. Judas Priest - Same vein as Iron Maiden as far as being essential, and musical legacy. King Diamond - Classic Metal. Very talented vocalist. Kreator - German thrash at it's finest. Mayhem - Wicked black metal. You won't like it, but file it with Death metal as an experience. Megadeth - One of the best Thrash metal bands around, same vein as Metallica, as this guy made many of the riffs Metallica used before they went downhill... (see credits for many of the KEA/RTL era songs) Metallica - Best known metal band. period. They've got some pretty good stuff prior to the 90's. The Mighty Nimbus - One of the best bands in Stoner metal today. Motorhead - If you don't know lemmy already, start here. Nuclear Assault - Awesome thrash with paper thin vocals. Pantera - Arguably the best metal of the 1990's. Ritual Carnage - More thrash... S.O.D. - Crossover thrash / hardcore, anthrax members involved. Sadus - One of Steve Digiorgio's tech death bands Sausage - More Les Claypool METAL Sepultura - Brazilian thrash gods. Slayer - American thrash metal icons. Sodom - German thrash Static X - I can't stand it, others might like it... Stratovarius - Power Metal gods. Tarot - Finnish metal. Clean vocals, rockin' guitar. Testament - More american thrash staples. Venom - Early thrash / black metal, very rough. Voivod - Canadian Thrash legends. Watchtower - Awesome progressive thrash metal. There's something to keep you busy, if you're interested, lol, I just scrolled through my playlist and grabbed a few artists (yeah, sorted alphabetically by artist..)
Sausage is a reunion of the original Primus, ultimately. I'm pretty sure they only released one album "Riddles are abound tonight" or something. I'd strongly advise checking them out if you like anything you've heard from Les Claypool.
I've seen King Diamond getting mentioned several times on this subforum, and almost never Mercyful fate. Do you guys really find his solostuff better then the band who made legendary metal albums like Melissa and Don't break the oath? I find Stratovarius an ultimate boring power metal band, to be honest. But I guess that's just me.
I'm not really sure which I prefer, I just happened to be listening to King Diamond earlier yesterday and threw him on the list.
Ah well, I'm also not entirely sure because records like Abigail and the Graveyard are pretty damn cool as well. Mercyful Fate is a little bit less show I suppose, which can get a bit over the top with King Diamond.
