My dad asked me the other day "Did you know you've started sprouting potatoes?". I informed him that the potatoes were actually wooden beads.

He was only having a laugh, naturally.

 

mom kicked me out, moved to beach, grew dreads, came home, shaved head..now im leaving again, and i will be dreading again..

 

i want dreads sooooooo bad but my dad keeps telling me next summer next summer i shud just go and get them but my sister thinks they wud look horrible on me i dunno i had 1 dread lol a friend of my put in she put it in wrong and it stuck out the side of my head it looked like i had a third ear lol it was awsome

 

You don't need to "go get it done". You can do it yourself!

 

and ususllay when u first get the dreads, they do tend to stick out a lil bit but with in a week or couple of days they go down haha. ive had mine for... lemme count 38 days! and my parents are still telling me i cant belive you did that. Now everyones going they are coming out u didnt do themr ight, im like yes i did, they go through stages just leave them alone and worry about your own hair. haha

 

yeah, my parents are physco.... my first set i did naturally, and my hair just went nuts cause it tangles so easily, so my parents said i HAD to brush it out... so i did...

now im backcombing, but no so hard, so they sit look presentable.... im gunna let them warm up to the idea a little... heres a picture!... i just locked up a couple of days ago....

thats so awesome haha. They are lookin good, i mena you can tell you have dreads! thats always a plus.

 

so this backcombing thing...any way you can tell me how to do it? my hair definately isnt as long as yours...but i would love to start it...

 

just take the sections that u want to be dreads, hold that section, and from the top to bottem take the comb and comg the opposite way. like towards the scalp. use a metal comb, like i used a dog flea brush i think its called. but it wasnt used haha. it metal and worked awesome. thats how u do it haha

I lived in France for a year, away from my family doing an exchange year. The majority of the people at school there have dreads, and if they don't they have long hair, I was going to start getting dreads, but I would know what my parents where going to say when i got back (they would probably come to me at night and actually cut my hair) I decided to get one dread, and thats all I did, now im back, and my mom still pisses me off about my one dread...I don't know how I could get her to change her mind, expecially women who are more emotional thinkers, and always they believe they are right, I didn't really talk to my dad about it, because let's just leave it at that.
I don't know if I should just get them, or just wait another year until college and just do them there...

 

ive had my dreads for just over two years now and i love um to death...my family didnt like um at first, but i had wanted them for like 5 yesrs. so my room mate abd i sat down and did um, it took about 14 hours....im soooooooo glad i got um!

 

My mom said "it looks like you have turds on your head"..which was very insulting....
i'm growing them agian after feeling guilty about brushing them out cos she talked me into it.....

 

i also got the whole "you got turds on your head deal"...dont let um get to you..if you like um, then keep um. im from a bum fuck town and theres probably 5 or 6 of us that have dreads..its kinda fun and interesting just to talk to each other about how to take care of them,a nice conversation starter...i love all the pics on this forum of people with dreads it makes me relize that im not the only one out there that loves um!!!

 

eh, i want dreads so freaking badly...but everytime I try to confront my parents about it, they get all mad and start yelling...I don't know why. My mom thinks that I'm gonna be all smelly and dirty just cuz I'll have dreads...lol..I should just start growing them without my parents' consent. hehehe..

I mean i told my mom and dad my friend was coming over and it was like the day i got home from vacation. adn their like oh why, didnt u get enough of her from ur guys vacation, and i was like well... not really but shes doing my hair, and my mom just looks at me and is like NO!! NO NO NO i was like YES!! YES YES YES haha and my friend came over, she did my hair and enen tho my parents dont like them, i dont care. I mean my mom said well im not takeing them out if u want them out. i was like ok, im not getting them out. and ive had them ever since. almost 2 months!! soo i guess what im saying is just go for it, what are they ganna do shave ur head? cuz if they do they are mean haha. peace

 

ye deff!! my mom hated the idea, haha it took a yr 2 convince them!! my babies are 6 days old, haha cant wait to wash them so theyll go down hahah i loooooove them!!!

 

My mum is very cynical about everything I do, but she has been there for very phase of my life so far tons of piercings funky hair/colors... she never gives me the go a head to do anything. I never let her decide what is best for me. Both my parents are finally realizing im unique and don't give a shit about how others percieve me. Just the attitude you have to have.... I've had these(second set) of dreads for over a week and she's loathes them of course. My pa said I look like side show bob off the simpsons lmao!!! But they know I love em so they can't say much.

 

My mom sure doesn't think I should do it....she wants me to at least wait a few months to do them and talk to my cousin about them because he had them for about a year....Whenever me and my sister talk about it she gets mad at me cuz I told her that you can form them by just backcombing and she absolutely does not believe that cobing your hair backwards would do anything.....She wants me to got to a salon to get them done and I really don't want to .....and of course none of my friends think I should do it either because they are "gross and ugly".....not much support around here

 

haha i always tried hiding mines from my dad at first and tell him they were just twists.but he kinda knows now.the other he told me he didn't want me having them now.maybe in a couple years or so.he think that having dreads would change our relationship.how insane! i think he cares too much of what others think.not so much of me but of him.he should put himself second for once.no matter what stupid thing i do he always forgets about it.so i'm hoping he'll forget about them.i mean the longer i wait the harder it's gonna be to take 'em out.haha.
