I was volunteering at an outdoor expo last weekend and some lady asked if those were dreads and how I got them (typical questions), I told her and her husband asks "Did you put cow shit in it?" I'm, like, no. And he says "Well they aren't real dreads unless you put cow manure in it."

Anyone ever heard that? I haven't. Where do you suppose the rumor/truth came from?

Umphreysrules posted this Ethiopian Icon of Christ in one of the Rastafari threads. I thought it would be appropriate here:

around january of last year i started asking my pops to let me get dreads. I did crazy shit like putting postit notes that said "dreadlocks for annA" all over my kitchen (i think there are still some in the fridge) and sending him daily emails with different dread websites. After about a month he said I could get them in the summer. When summer rolled around he tried to tell me I couldn't get them (he figured I would have forgotten by then). There was massive screaming and yelling and eventually he realized that he couldn't break a promise he made to me without some serious relationship damage, so he agreed to let me get them done. He still hates them, but I don't really care too much. My mom doesn't really care either way, and my bro thinks theyre awesome but dirty (shows how much he knows).

I already posted a thread about this, but I'm going to put it as a reply in here, too.

I didn't really want to dread my hair, espcially if I didn't like how it looked on me. But I still wanted to try them.
If you don't mind putting in a little time, you can go and buy some extension hair from wal-mart (it's called jumbo-braid) for about $2-$3 a pack (it takes about 6 packs to do a head). They're really easy to do, and there's NO damage to your natural hair. There's so many different methods of doing them though, I'll just put a link to my favorite site that I found them on. :)

I think parents shouldnt put so much importance into hair and outward appearce! I would love to have kids one day and for them ot want to have dreads. But I will not force it upon them, now will I tell them they cant have a shaved head, or mo-hawk, or whatever hair they want.

my parents accepted my dreads pretty quickly. they really went through the ringer with me in high school! my hair was blue, green, purple, and pink. those years were difficult, but now they really put out an effort to respect my decisions, even though i still get some wisecracks from them.

I started my dreadlocks like few weeks ago and well my parents hate them, they say that I look ugly with them and I am more beatiful without them and they cant understand why I wanna look ugly.

    I dont think so!:sunglasse

Im still having them,I want it and i think its time for me to do what I want, not obey my parents for eturnity. Ofcourse Im also a little worried that my parents doesnt support me like well they dont see my way of life:( but I think that at least my dad will accept them when he sees that this is my will!
