If women really wanted to be topless they would band together and change any laws prohibiting it.

Nah - I mean, where they can actually enforce a ban via the law.

Bearing in mind that in this part of the world it is winter, coming into autumn and the temperature never got above 11 degrees today I have gone the entire day on crutches in bare feet (which were quite dirty and muddy by the end of the day) and shirtless.
The crutches had given me a bit of a rash under my arms. I spoke to my doctor (who happens to be a friend as well) who told me to "toughen up, and don't wear a shirt for a couple of days so there is no materiel rubbing against it." I wasn't too keen, but it really hurt and I ahd heaps of things I needed to do today so I took his advice. I felt pretty self-conscious going into shops bare-chested as well and bare feet.
I went to several shops and no problems at all. A couple of times I was asked if I was cold. The best was at the bank, where the girl behing the counter said "Do you want to borrow my shirt?" I explained why I was standing there topless when every other customer was in a coat. She said "It looks really cool. You should always go like that, crutches and topless looks awesome on a guy."

Lets see how the next couple of topless days go before I decide if this is a permanent look.

I've had lots of hassle in the UK for being shirtless during the sumer, shops, cafes, bars. Particularly in those middle-class snooty towns such as Cheltenham and York. Nothing for being barefoot or even muddy boots, but shirtless really gets the disapproval flowing!

Not if the numbers involved considered it a waste of time trying. Assuming all women are equally bothered enough to be motivated to be activists about it is false, lol. That is a flaw in normal democracy - it only bothers about freedom if that freedom matters to a majority.

In most indigenous people of tropic climates it is (better saying "has been", because things changed there dramatically) like that. Does not anything to do with sexism.

Today, on Sunday, August 26, is a perfect occasion to bump this thread and wishing all women a happy Go Topless Day (which coincides with this year's Women Equality Day).

There are rallies all over the US (the central one in Washington DC, right near the White House), celebrating the right for women to go topless in public.

Locations for rallies can be found here: http://gotopless.org/gotopless-day

I'm not sure, whether it's just coincidence, that the German newspaper "taz" features Uta Melle today, a strong and brave 40-year-old woman who has fought against breast cancer, had a double mastectomy, and uses nude photography as her art form to continually define her own beauty and femininity, after her double breast amputation. The photo above (from the press release linked below) shows Uta Melle in the foreground, with short, dark hair, together with other strong and brave women.

Since today is Go Topless Day, it's also a good day to celebrate this very special form of raising breast cancer awareness and defining beauty.

Here's the press release for the publication of the book "Amazonen" (Amazons), featuring Uta Melle and other women, celebrating life as well as beauty in a special way:

    http://www.stilwerk.de/designgallery/content-img/PressReleasestilwerkgalleryAmazonen.pdf

And the link to the German article in the newspaper "taz" entitled "Femininity despite breast cancer" (headline translation by me):

    http://www.taz.de/Weiblichkeit-trotz-Brustkrebs/!100304/

When facing the mastectomy, about to have her breasts amputated, she thought about what her beauty is about and if she could face society without her breasts. After an intense process of thinking, she conluded that she can do that. She then faced her husband and asked him "Do you need them?" and gave him time to think about it. As a reply, he gave her a picture of an amazon, one of the mythical greek warrior women who are believed to have cut off a breast to better shoot their bows. When asked, whether she would have decided differently, if her husband had said that he did need her with her breasts, she hesitates for a moment, but then says "Fortunately, he has different preferences... he's more of a foot fetishist and my feet are still there..."

(An excerpt from the "taz" article, translated by me)

Uta Melle lives with her husband and daughter in Berlin.

I think, when talking about and discussing equal topfreedom rights, this should not be overlooked.

    Wiggling bare toes,
