men and no shirts, what about the women?

Actually, that was the way it used to be. Watch some old B&W reruns, everyone was always fully dressed and slept in separate beds. It is now much more liberal now. By 2050, nudity will probably be common-place.

This is kind of related, kind of not, but oh well. At my school we have this big party (school-sanctioned) called Safer Sex Night. The only dress regulations are genitals and nipples (on both sexes) must be covered. I appreciate the equal treatment of boys and girls on this one.

Erogenous zones(By society's standards) change through time. This is only a rough guess but it goes something like this:
    00-10--The ankle
    10-20--The calf
    20-30--The neck and shoulders
    30-50--The upper thigh and breasts
    50-60--The naval and upper stomach
    70-90--The upper thigh and waist
    90-00--Lower waist and everything else
I think it went something like that. There is'nt much more of the female body to reveal, so as far as I can tell, it won't be long before the topless female will be accepted every place that would normally allow topless men.
Also, I think the nude female body is far over rated. It's like when you see a clothed women, it's kind of like a mystery or something. Like something to look forward to. And whether society tells me or not, tits are still erotic.

Seems kinda stupid that they made the boys cover their nipples as well as the girls, I guess they wanted to keep it fair but I dont see how them covering their nipples has anything to do with safe sex. I would really like to see a safe sex event where everybody has to be naked and keep from having sex with the opposite gender, that would be the real challenge. Its easy to do it when you have something covering the genitals, that kind of defeats the purpose.

Well, the party itself is just a thing were they hand out all sorts of free goodies (condoms, lube, etc.), have demonstrations of various things (I remember something involving a police officer and melted wax), and have a "tent of consent." Covering the nipples has nothing to do with safer sex. That is just a matter of the administration not wanting a bunch of naked kids running around.

allowing women to go topless, are you mad?! that would put thousands of strippers out of business. not to mention the whole boob industry, and its affiliates. dont you realize that the survival of the entire american economy depends on the success of big nipple?

Thats the thing though, ya want the porn industry to go outta business and then more women would be accepted topless out in public and all the money wasted on businesses exploiting women could be better used for community programs or to feed poor people or just help others in various ways. I wouldnt really give a damn personally if women's breast freedom made the porn and bra industries go down in flames, nobody NEEDS them anyways. The economy would survive and even if it didnt women would have their rights and in the end thats whats really impiortant anyways, let all the economic money grubber people worry about the economy, thats what they get paid for, its none of my business.

You know what's funny? I can take or leave "tits," (although my appreciation for them, which used to be minimal, has grown lately). But since I have a FOOT fetish, I can get turned on by seeing a girl in public with her FEET bare! And there's nothing "sexual" about it in the eyes of the law or, in fact, most other people!
    :D It's so cool!!

Now, as far as the American phobia about seeing breasts in public, I think it's absurdly stupid. The fact that breasts are treated as "sexual parts" itself is stupid. They are NOT sexual parts. They have no involvement whatsoever with the sexual act, which does not require more than a penis and a vagina, period. The breasts may be enjoyed during sex, but they are not integral to sex nor procreation. In fact, they are not even really "required" anymore for feeding an infant, now that we have baby formula that mimicks (debatable about how well) the mother's milk. So the censors are not even really right about classifying breasts -- or more specifically, nipples -- as objects of a prurient nature.

Yes, it's amazing that our censors (network, film, etc.) consider depictions of violence perfectly okay, but depictions of sex, no way! My newspaper regularly shows photos of people lying dead after war wounds or car accidents. But one time, there was a picture of a kid in some sports uniform, like wrestling or football pants or something, and they actually doctored the photo because you could see, through the fabric of his pants, the outline of his penis! THAT was UNACCEPTABLE! And they went so far as to retouch the photo in Photoshop, which to my mind should be absolutely forbidden in a newspaper that is supposed to depict reality as it actually appeared.

Indeed; I'm tired of people who find breasts to be sexual. Hell, that amuerism-inducing Girls Gone Wild commercial was just on; how can anyone even watch a film dedicated purely to girl's breasts during spring break? I find it down right stupid that so many people are offended by flesh; genitals are the only area where I could see a reason for someone to feel uncomfortable viewing.

    Cool!
I know that when I was living in NY (prior to '97) it got established that women had an equal right to be topless in public. I don't know if it resulted from a law that was written to protect that right, or from a court case that struck down a law that said they couldn't, or what. All I know is, it became public knowledge that a woman could go everywhere a guy could go topless, and be topless herself. I just imagine that it is not something they take advantage of very much, because doing so would expose the woman to all sorts of hassle, harassment, scorn, and possible abuse. But I hope there are women sometimes doing it, just to make it gradually more acceptable. Like I said, since a woman's breasts are not essential so sex, no more than a man's are, they should be viewed as neutral just like a man's are. The notion of not being allowed to see them is archaic, like some victorian prissiness. And since the Europeans have "gotten over it," that's proof that it is not some innate human aversion that Americans are evidencing.

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey

Too bad all women couldnt suddenly appear in public topless and then people woudl gradually get used to them and then itd no longer be a problem, women just gotta get the guts to go out there and do it and if enough did it then people would slowly grow used to it and itd no longer be a problem.

ok, so here's a plan.... tomorrow, every woman that is reading this, strip off her top someplace public. Encourage others to do the same. And, for that matter, just go all the way... encourage *everyone* to take off all their clothes and ENJOY IT!!!! No better way to get something accepted than when you have everyone doing it.

Ya, the pigs wouldn't be able to bust everyone for being topless; that'd just make you question the point in that.

Found this very interesting thread from a few years ago... I wonder - have cultural attitudes towards women's toplessness softened or changed? Women - do you now feel free and safe to be topless at the beach?

This topic is of great interest to men and minimal interest to women.

Are there any places that don't accept male shirtlessness? I've never found any myself.
