I've been working on a set of animal totem medicine cards for a couple of months now. Mostly using my own Intuition, and information from Ted Andrews Animal Speak and Animal Wise books. good stuff there in my opinion. I also have pdf's of Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams.

however, I was working on making my own deck and trying to keep it manageable. so far it iss 67 cards, kind of on the big side but I think manageable. Also this was the year I was born. (happy coincidence). I have about 14 cards finished. Some I have drawn, others I have used pictures out of magazines whenever I come across a free magazine laying round if I happen to flip through it and see a picture I like. the rest are blank with only a name, and 2-3 basic words of what I think it represents/means.Sometimes on the back of the card I will write down a little more detailed information but not always. The cards I am making are pretty much standard playing card size i.e. 2 1/2" by 3 1/2" (roughly 6.5 cm by 8.5 cm)and fit into "game card" protector sleeves. I have varied the style of artwork on the cards I have drawn myself.

Anyways...here is my asking for help part:

Anybody interested in helping me finish making this deck ? I will post the list of cards here and in my HIP FORUMS JOURNAL and the ones I already have made. Just pick one and make it. Send me a private message telling me which one you want to do and I'll update my list. Mail it to me, I will give you my address in a private message and I'll be wonderfully delighted. If you'd like to make one for me, there is also a way to send mail without postage. I'm not even sure what the cost of a U.S. postage stamp is these days. An idea might be to make one on a postcard, I could cut it out. :)

Also, as far as the list of animal totem cards go, I am open for suggestions. I hate to add to many more as I like the number (67). There are 3 blank cards so I could add a couple. Or possibly change a couple. I'm flexible and bendy.

I think if someone has the computer skills to make scans of them and make a printable pdf or something we could share the decks. Just print and cut out.

anyways, that is my wacky idea for the day.

Sounds interesting... At the moment I can't promise anything but it is something within my interest and capabilities. Would you only want one card from each artist or would multiple cards from one artist be okay.... I have some favorite animals, obviously.

I would need some links to available sources of existing decks to jog the brain... (Seems I even have a deck here somewhere that I never did anything with :p )

Here is a link to the Jamie Sams medicine cards. Mine aren't this fancy. aha

    http://www.astroamerica.com/t-medi.html

    Another interpretation

    http://www.behance.net/gallery/Medicine-cards/2855791

I'm going to post some pictures in my albums of the ones I have finished.

Making more than one would be a true blessing. The (this) project is a variation of the "art card" thing I have seen at some small galleries and such where artists trade small card sized artwork. they take one leave one kind of thing. I'll ask some friends about the possibility of scanning them and making a printable free deck for anyone to use and share.

Interesting. I used to have the Jamie Sams deck. Unfortunately I don't draw well. I am artistic in other ways but not drawing. You probably should have a turtle. I also like wolves but see you already made one.

When I originally started making the deck I would shuffle them and pick a card once a week and that is the card I would make. While thinking of the card, the animal, what sort of style or picture I would use it also allowed me to contemplate what the animal stood for. What messages it conveyed and meanings. I picked the Deer card just the other day, same day that I received a free road map and guide book for Missouri in the mail and there just happen to be a picture of a deer in it. So, that is the picture I used for it, just tore it out and glued it on. (happy coincidence ?) Not all art is drawing and they don't need to be exquisite or fancy as long as it conveys the animal and/or the meaning of it. Petroglyphs, pictograms, hieroglyphics, symbolism, any sort of "primitive" art I have always been fascinated by, even childrens drawing, when they draw what they want and it looks like they want before they have been "taught" it has to look a "certain way". there is a wide range and way of conveying the messages and meanings of animal forms.

btw, Turtle is #10 on the list . :)

Thanks for the list. I have been watching the Decorah Eagles for 10-11 weeks now. They hatched about nine weeks ago but are still in the nest testing their wings and jumping up and down. The parents come in periodically for feedings. You could get a bunch of ideas from them for your #1 Eagle.

Thanks again for the list. I printed it out.

Spectacles, thats great seeing the Eagles nesting. rumour around here is there is a pair about 5 miles from me on private land at a stone quarry. I did see a lone Bald Eagle 2 weeks ago while I was down there. It's a phenomenal site seeing them in the wild flying. Before that I had only seen them in cages. :(

always crackers, Great idea, I didn't think of that one. My mind tends to stick to local and critters of north america. Would like you to make that one ? :) hint hint.

I was thinking of doing spider today. came across an old picture of a drawing I had done with a prayer to spider on it. It's based on some african tribal style pictures I had seen once. I've done several variations of that picture in journal and sketch books (one and the same to me) over the years.

I believe responding here is easiest. I'd like to keep this a public offering. I am going to mess around with my camera today and see if I can get some actual size photo's of the cards I already have done, then they could be saved and printed for anyone to use. Eventually I will check into getting a pdf file made including the descriptors, meanings and different types of readings/spreads. That is pretty basic stuff, pretty much like normal tarot card use. I like the animal cards because it is easier for me to relate to and to interpret them.

Okay... For right now I would like to reserve number 24.Crow to do something with. I'll possibly do a few others depending...

I'll check out the online sources and I'm pretty sure I have a deck of these somewhere for inspiration (No not copying)

thanks Tyrsonswood. I updated the list, red bold and name of person making it. I also added the elephant in place of a blank card. thanks for the suggestion Alwayscrackers.

There are many many styles and forms of art work. They don't have to be drawings done by hand. maybe you are good at photoshop and such and make a picture using that, or photography, or as I did I used a couple pictures out of magazines and drew a border or something around it. I'm sure there are a ton of other artistic ways to make one that I can't think of. lol Cause I don't consider myself that great at drawing, I'm used to sketching and capturing ideas and feelings rather than drawing detail/perfection. I really have to work hard (and time) at drawings where I am using pen, pencil, marker, and want detail clean lines and such etc as my media. I've done some stipilism, value reduction pictures, cut paper that were SOOOOO aggravating for me to do. the end result was rewarding tho. We're all usually are worst critics when it comes to art and such.

You'll only be able to edit that list for 24-48 hours (not sure which) so you're going to have to repost it at intervals to keep it updated.

We have eagles nesting about 2 miles from here but the vantage point is far from the nest (as it should be). It is even hard to watch with binoculars. The Decorah nest has been there for a few years (same parents three eggs and babies the last two years). It has a movable camera right at the nest to watch their growth but the sound went out last week. I find it so fascinating to watch their progress.

I had a mental image flash last night about the crow card... It was right before I went to bed. Whatever it was is gone now though. :p

It'll come back though, or something better will come along.
