I was reading an article about the demonization of marijuana by the media, but I don't know if I particularly agree. Some news outlets are going to be biased one way or another, but most of the coverage on legalization I've seen has skewed toward the positive if anything. Just yesterday, someone told me about an article that says the GOP polled in favor of federal legalization even more than the democrats.
Media Manipulation? Nooooo...tell me it's not so. Those nice folks would never do anything like that.
You'd be surprised how many newsreaders and reporters have a military background. Then once you know, you wonder why? Security personnel in newsrooms and studios became common place during the Falklands war. After that war they became more integrated, and were recruited into the staff.
My news is very limited these days. No cable, no TV. I have not witnessed media manipulation lately. But it is all lies and I am cool with it. breaking up with cable and TV in 2010 was a great decision and gives me more time. Less input and I am just not looking for easy entertainment anymore. I need more mountains.
Images of sorrow, pictures of delight things that go to make up a life ... scenes of unimportance, photos in a frame things that go to make up a life
Stanford researchers find students have trouble judging the credibility of information online https://ed.stanford.edu/news/stanford-researchers-find-students-have-trouble-judging-credibility-information-online
I found a list recently on FB (yes I know, "credibility"?), that listed folks who work for popular news outlets, and their spouses/significant others, family members, etc. who are of some importance in our Government. Most of the media outlets had workers with someone on the inside connected to their family. So it may be no surprise in a little media manipulation. One of my favorite political statements comes from Barry Goldwater's book "With No Apologies", circa 1979. some reference to "Washington D.C. cracking away from the coast, and floating out into the Atlantic seaboard" lol.
If you want media manipulation, just look at how they're reporting from and about Aleppo. And those tweets from that girl Bana.
When the billionaire mayor of NYC had pigs arrest 26 reporters in one day the news media declined to sue the man and he merely received a slap on the wrist. Almost nobody I mentioned the incident to knew it had ever occurred because almost no mass media outlets even bothered to make it front page news. At least they were honest about it and said that there was simply no point in trying to sue a billionaire who could drag it out in court forever and no point in making it front page news when the public themselves just didn't give a shit. The media is catering to the interest of those with money and the mindless mob which insists on remaining mindless with half the American public insisting the government and mass media they call evil lie to them for their own protection. What this reflects is reactionary politics organized along the lines of a flock of chickens where the lights are left on all the time because nobody is hardly ever home. The recent increase in "fake news" merely reflects the fact that nobody really cares and nobody is actually in charge. Its just more fodder for the internet trolls to play with and, notably, the Russians used internet trolling as part of their strategy to sway the election to Trump. That's where things should get interesting in the very near future with fake news now capable of swinging an election and everybody fighting over who gets to tell people what lies.
Streaming Tv is the answer ......... I haven't watched a News program since I started streaming 8 years ago. If you don't watch the news and don't read the news, they can't influence you.
Even the movies attempt to provide the public with the viewpoints they demand because that's what sells. When only 7% of the public approve of their own government, yet, over half insist the government and mass media they call evil lie to them for their own protection that's exactly what they do. Conan O'Brien does a regular piece where his staff records the talking heads all repeating the same bullshit verbatim. Its eerie watching fifty of them all spout the same crap and you could do the same thing with movies.
They're working their way up to bigger and better things with virtual porn and full body haptic suits being among the subjects I'm following just out of sheer curiosity. You can already plug into virtual porn and have a live star online do whatever, but they are now making their own lunar moonshot to develop the technology. For example, a Swiss company specializing in medical equipment to provide feedback is producing the "mindmaze" VR and AR headset that actually reads your brainwaves to produce a zero latency signal where the computer knows what you intend to do next and they are now in the process of integrating touch so that you can feel whatever virtual objects you are touching. Neurologists have already mapped out how to make you cream your pants with just a little electricity and things like the tiniest imaginable current across your heart can inspire fear. Exactly where they are taking this even the developers may not sometimes care to speculate, but it could be another hundred years before they figure out how to maximize this kind of technology and, for example, one physician has already shown it is practically possible to read the human mind as easily as you would a newspaper using a simple electroencephalogram. Things are not only going to get groovier over time, but artificial intelligence will throw in whatever monkey wrench happens to float your boat.
Conan's the best. Local news is just more network broadcasting even if they focus on more of the feel-good news locals want to hear. They all read the same crap off the teleprompter that comes straight from Routers whenever discussing any corporate interests.
