never read comic books, couldn't care less about Price, or the scientific community, and where did i mention anything about sally fallon? just used the link as an easy reference, and if you'd have bothered to read it all, you may have noticed that most of it was based on scientific evidence through anthropological studies through actual contact with native americans and is just a humorous version of a list of things people in the americas ate before it was colonized. wouldn't be too hard for you to search online to find all the info yourself on what native americans ate. all i know is my ancestors did quite well and were very healthy. i myself eat alot of the things that were in my ancestor's diets, kind of hard to avoid when you're born and raised in cajun country, cajuns eat just about anything, for some it's not just a matter of choice, but a matter of neccessity, these survival skills were taught to them by the attakapa-ishak native americans, without their help the acaidian exiles would have had a much harder time surviving, if they would have at all. kind of like what happened with the pilgrims. the stuff in that link is a bit mild compared to some of the things the coastal natives ate. you're more than welcome to visit and eat a few delicacys if you're ever in south louisiana, i'd be more than happy to show you around, you'll really enjoy our zoo, our's is a bit different than most, instead of genus and species next to the animals name, we put directions for preparation and a recipe.
there's a difference between having to eat an animal you or someone you know killed to survive and going to a supermarket and asking yourself, "do i want beef or bean burritos? do i want pepperoni or spinach pizza? dairy or soy milk?" i don't know everything there is to know about what happens on farms. i don't know how the animals are treated. and i don't know if eating meat is bad for my body or not. there are lots of arguments for both sides. but i know i CAN live without it, and then i don't have to wonder. it's not like meat tastes better than other food. at least not to me. besides, in a lot of the food we eat, the meat is added just for the hell of it. it would be just as good without it. like putting bacon bits on your potatoes, or pork in your rice.
You have great faith in modern scientific methods. I disagree about the "not disproving your point" part - your argument is that meat is highly un-nutrional if not detrimental to one's health, if this was so then this family would suffer from severe health problems, they don't. To hold family experiments as well as considering various peer review reports and books is a far greater way of determining the truth for yourself than simply holding peer reports in high regard without actually putting them through scrutiny. Shes a smart lady, and shes carried on a long tradition of homeopathy from Germany. Your approach to nutritional problems seems highly akin to those of the medical industry; "lets all listen to the proffesionals". A homeopath is very observant, they notice slight changes in personality, health, skin pigments, smells, bodily reactions - so many things, you would be surprised. So taking that into consideration, and considering that this lady has read peer reports, books, carried knowledge from her family as well as watching her children's as well as her own diets very carefully and the subsequent reactions, would you not agree that she deserves some merit for her judgement? She is still questioning to this day, but she believes meat is imprtant to one's diet, and trust me, she belongs to a large circle of very ethical, critical thinking people in my city who are implementing a lot of changes to diet and environmental attitudes. Anyway, a liver cleansing diet typically goes for a week or so, you don't eat meat for the whole time, you eat only wholemeal carbohydrate rich foods (ie grains) + fruit and vegetables (cooked or raw) for a few days, then fast from carb foods for a few days, then get off the fruit for a day or so, then go on to raw vegetables and in extreme cases people will only drink water or juice for a day or too, then you work your way back up in reverse. Obviously you'd stay away from risky foods like garlic, onions, dairy, etc. and refined sugars. I don't know how well they work, i am starting one today. Even if "detoxification" is a myth, i don't see why abstaining from bad foods for a while wouldn't be a bad thing. I hope that explains it well enough,. 59, you've heard what i have to say, i have a few more arguments of my own against fundamental vegetarianism but i'd really like to hear your views and evidence on the topic, even if i might not agree it won't do harm in hearing it. Dont think at all that I am against vegetarianism.
I can't belive it. How the hell can you call yourself peace makers' when you are murders?! god damet. i just can't belive it. h--y--p--o--c--r--i--t--e--s!!!!! http://www.pelosanimais.org.pt/recursos/free_me_go.php
So the vast majority of humans on the planet in hundreds of cultures, pre-historic, historic, Western, Eastern, hunter gatherer, agricultural as well as our evolutionary ancestors spanning millions of years (homonids) who have had diets including meat are: a) murderers? b) completely misinformed? c) morally insuperior to yourself? or all of those things? Big call
while the majority of people think logically ,some think emotionally ...i think i'll stay on the side of science...LOGIC
I prefer to avoid big picture logic and go with penis logic. The little man has got the meaning of life down my friend.
Indeed it is-- so is self-righteousness. You're not going to convert anyone, so your persistent "meat is murder" crusade amounts to little more than flaming. We disagree and I can find respect for point of view... the problem is when you take your disagreement the critical step into a public forum and smear those who differ as heinous murderers. Get over yourself and if you wish to be vegan for whatever reason, fine; but don't start preaching to me with a arrogant and self righteous tone and expect that I'm going respond very positively. Oh- and by the way, the post you quoted and shot down with your rolleyes sarcasm was a JOKE... I suggest you get a sense of humor- perhaps there's a supplement that can furnish that since it seems that so very many vegans seem to lack one.
Don't waste your time with someone who chooses to behave like a hysterical nutcase. There's no way that reason is going to have any effect on them. Leave them alone and let them believe that they are superior to us... don't want to take away the fun of their little cult-religion.
I have read enough of your replies to conclude that you're a snobbish, self-righteous individual who refuses to respect that other folks are allowed to differ with you. It is less a debate and more a religious crusade crafted to emphasize how morally superior you are than us lowly savages.
If you weren't so busy being pompous and indignant you might notice that I have if anything defended meat eating by saying things like "eating meat is perfectly natural" and emphasizing the importance of personal choice in this issue. So I'll change "haven't read" to "haven't understood"
augh! calm down, kids. what you put into your body doesn't define how right or good you are. can we all agree on the following things? . meat does provide some nutrients you might have a difficult time finding otherwise . you do not NEED to eat meat to live a healthy life . if you do eat meat, you can still live a healthy life . vegetarians can be unhealthy due to their diet . people who eat meat can be unhealthy due to their diet . there are cruel ways of killing animals for meat, and more humane ways if you disagree tell me because if i'm wrong i'd like to know it's just your personal choice. it's like watching porn; if it makes you feel guilty, don't do it. you're not missing much. if you like it, do it. it's not gonna hurt you.
hats off to prismatism!!! ~kicks this thread's dead horse and scratch my ass while finding my knife~ horse kabobs anyone? uggg!!!
That's pretty much right ... fanatics on both sides calling people names like "murderers" or "self-righteous crusaders" really doesn't help anything. For me it's a personal choice to limit the amount of suffering I cause to other sentient creatures ... I might disagree with them but when it comes down to it people are free to cause as much suffering as they want or limit it as much as they want. Entirely a matter of personal conscience.
