"Queer" and "gay" do not mean the same thing. "Queer" is not part of any kind of progressive or positive lexicon. Words will always have inherent meanings; and calling ourselves simply whatever, without focusing on the language--a very important part as it establishes the entire frame of reference in the public's mind--is a considerably counterproductive thing to do. It's all part of the psychology of linguistics. "Gay" both means and connotes (to any native English speaker) things positive. "Queer," while not derogatory, emphasizes difference over likeness, and perhaps rebellion over conformity. If one wants to be individually rebellious and consider oneself part some kind of a sexual renaissance, that's his individual prerogative. However, he has no right to call all of us "queer" and lobby to change the original and seasoned unifying language hitherto employed by the gay rights movement... all under the guise of inclusiveness!
Guys, as the moderator here, I see no reason to change anything in the name. It works just fine as it is. I appreciate some of the thoughts and feelings expressed but it's gonna stay just like it is. Hope thats OK with everybody. Steve
As a Open minded person. I think Gay covers It.. I never had trouble navigating and searching for subjects using the term Gay. As others pointed out the forums menu is fine the way it is laid out.. Leave it be Steve. But you already decided that since it wasnt a good argument to begin with....
Then there's that hidden half of gay hidden in hetero. Guys that hook up with a girl thats only really about sex for babies, marry, just diddle with the wife to make babies, all the while, before during and after babies have a secret male friend or do the anonymous thing. Girls that were gay or bi, hookup with a guy for 7 years until until the required number of babies come out, then kick out the husband, or stop putting out till he leaves, then its back to girls again. All depends what your definition of gay is
True,True... That is a good point Vanilla Gorilla. Still think the name should stay the same.It works fine
