Mass Shooting Rampage in Nova Scotia Canada

The body count is still rising from this weekends killing rampage. This is now Canada's deadliest mass shooting ever. There is at least 20 dead and at least 16 crime scenes including 5 burned buildings and vehicles.

that guy that did it was real normal looking too. wonder what bothered him so much ?

 

Keep wondering cause they never ever tell us the motive probably to avoid the public having the slightest sympathy if one of these people was severely wronged.

No excuse for mass killings but still name the motive behind any mass shooting in the last 10 years besides ones like that new Zealand guy.

Yes, something was wrong with him. Very random and out of character too. Something snapped. No one had any indication something was up, friends family, etc... seems he left no note or writings to indicate this. He was just a guy who snapped. Some of the people he knew as well and was friends with. Seems there might have been some mental disorder, perhaps not diagnosed.

 

Do we know anything about the mental state of the suspect, or his background?

I heard he was in business with his ex wife, they were both denturists. It seems she and her boyfriend were first on his hit list, then it went random. So bizarre he had his own police car and uniform. Wiped out an entire family. This is the kind of crazy shit you'd expect to hear happen in Texas or New Mexico or someplace anywhere but Nova Scotia Canada. 23 dead including the shooter is last I heard. Possibly still more crime scenes to examine.

 

I agree that it's extremely unusual.

I happened to meet someone from Nova Scotia (I think she was from Halifax) on a cruise of the Mexican Riviera one spring break my senior year. She was pretty, reserved, named Heather, and mild mannered. If Clark Kent were a girl, Heather would be just like Clark Kent. So I'm thinking it's quiet there or something. I don't know if that's true or not, but shocked describes my feeling on hearing this happened in Nova Scotia.

Imo, Gabriel wanted to be creative, famous, stand out and be remembered not just for his achieved historical body count but also for the way he accomplished it in an original and never done before fashion. Gabriel wanted nothing to do with being a copycat killer.

Somebody really dropped the ball too, not alerting the public. Many of the victims had no idea there was an active shooter on the loose for hours.

 

I don't think it was that sudden. Most people don't have an identical replica of an RCMP cruiser and an authentic RCMP uniform just lying around for the hell of it.

Seems like some of the victims were targeted and others were random.

Probably a good thing that it happened while everyone was staying at home anyway.

 

well if the person is hearing the voices in ones head, the voice can make a plan. Clearly he snapped. It was not racially motivated or that he hated the people either. It was random but it seems as well he was heading to halifax. Maybe too, in this isolation he was not taking meds and or receiving them.

 

I was born in Nova Scotia and lived there for the first 9 years of my life, and I go back every year at least once. It is a very quiet place, especially in the rural communities.

Yes it is very rural... I know some people who are schizophrenic. They are capable of planning things. They also can be dangerous, although it is not common at all. They often fixate on something, plan it, believe wrongs if paranoid schizophrenic that a wrong has been done to them, that someone is out to get them, and there is a fight or flight that happens. Sometimes it is to defend oneself from this constant threat that is perceived, and planning can happen like this. Just like someone who is thinking they are being poisoned when they are not, will kill before they are killed. I knew of one guy who built an electrified vest, so that if he was touched by anyone they would receive an electric shock. A friend of mine, his brother is and thought his brother was poisoning him. Not good, not common for the person to go out and kill, but it happens sometimes, it was time for a medication adjustment, change, Extremes can happen like this, they usually do not happen. Anyways, it is very possible to plan like this. I believe there was a mental illness happening here.

 

I'd argue that every mass shooter is mentally ill, even if they don't meet the criteria for some sort of official diagnosis. Anyone who goes out and guns down a bunch of people, for any reason, has something going on in their head that isn't healthy.

Edit: Where did you live on the east coast? I grew up in East Hants County, Nova Scotia, and then we moved to Lower Sackville, NS before moving to the GTA.

 

yes but usually there is a motivation, like the one at the university in Quebec, like the one at the mosque, like the one who ran people down in Toronto... etc... those are not mental illness. They were aware. this seems to have none, Which is different. No political motivation or anything,
