I thought we would be on Mars by 2005. Now, I am thinking it will take much longer than we dreamed. It may be the 22nd century before we get to Mars. We were probably more capable of sending men to Mars after the Apollo flights than we are after 25 years of the Space Shuttles and International Space Station. Mars is a long journey, 6 months there and 6 months back for probably 2 days on its surface. Men will die along the way. Is it worth it?
