Well I find a difference between masturbation and sex with my girl. Masturbation is all about me getting myself off and I don't need to worry about her needs. So when I am in a regular relationship with regular access to a willing partner I would tend to masturbate a few times a week. If I do not have regular access (for the record - currently single but happy at the moment with my hand!) then I obviously masturbate more often which would normally be once per day and typically just before I go to sleep at night. But if I am having a horny spell, I will jerk off whenever I want to.
