Yeah, but if you keep their passport and any other form of ID, financial assets, etc. locked up where she can't get to them, she'll have to be more submissive, won't she? If you bring her in on a temporary visa (or just go illegal from the get-go), then never go thru the permanent residency paperwork, she can't call anyone for help, can she (unless she wants to be deported, and I'm sure he has all kinds of stories about how bad things have gotten in her home town)? No, I'm not implying that all men are horrible and evil like this, but I do believe there is something inherently wrong with any man who would rather import a woman he's never or barely met... How twisted is he that every woman who gets to know him is unwilling to marry him (or thinks for herself too much for him to want to marry her)?
That's true, people have children before getting married, never get married, etc. BUT, that in itself is a demographic shift to a higher portion of single mothers. And it may be significant as a shift within the category of single mother in that more women with the financial assets to support a child are choosing to become single mothers. The point in bringing that up was that these are the kinds of things an academic study is supposed to discuss. Here is what we studied, here is how it directly affects the population under study (in this case divorced men), and here is how it more broadly affects the society as a whole. I threw out the correlation between marriage age and birth rate as a illustration of that, because those have gone hand in hand in the past (when it was dreadfully shameful to be an unwed mother). I don't know how these changes are affecting the demographics of any country today, as that's not what I study. But, the imbeciles who wrote the article Green directed us to claimed that this concern for how it affects demographics was nothing more than evil feminists using an issue that mainly impacts men to worry about women again. As if such concerns suggested that we only care about men insofar as what happens to them affects women. My point was not to discuss whether it's valid to connect marriage and birth rates, but to illustrate how assinine these writers were being.
Damn straight! At your age, my dad was telling me he hoped I wouldn't get married till I was in my 30s! Wait till after college, after grad school, get started on a career... Instead of looking for crappy propaganda like this to arm yourself against your parents, tell them flat out that you're not ready! You want more out of life! Hell, set up a parade of kids who got married at 18 and divorced before they could legally drink! Look specifically at divorce rates (from reputable sources -- did YOU search for the article these stats were supposedly taken from? Would you know how to critically evaluate that level of literature, to recognize whether they used reliable sampling methods, good data collection techniques, etc.?)... Look specifically at divorce rates for couples who were married as teenagers, show THAT to your parents... But get away from this crap you have been reading...
the EU is "importing" workers by the hundreds of thousands because the work force is diminishing - (Green, its not only Japan) but make no mistake - this isnt ONLY about birth rate falling - in fact, it is mainly a side effect that standards of "good" living have changed. Values, norms, needs and wants, opportunities, education - the whole package - and within a generation.
They're importing workers at the request of multinationals, who like the fact that they bring down the prevailing wage, don't ask for safeguards, training, pensions or benefits.
I agree, IronGoth. "imported" workers get minimum benfits, if any. But they are filling a demand for blue collar work - and its not restricted to the employer who wants cheap labour. If you provide education for 90% of your workforce, who wants to pack boxes? When unemployment benefits outweigh or even equal the SOCIAL value of minimum wage, those who are willing, will earn it. Its contradictory - unemployment rises, as does the need to "import" a workforce.
Theres going to be alot of people coming from Mexico into the United States. They predicted that hispanics will be the majority in some year, I forgot when. They already make up 60% of this state.
