    Have you ever noticed that programs such as Microsoft Word are increasingly allowing users to have the option of selecting various formats and dictionary uses of the english language according to country?

    I try not to cringe when I hear Asians, East Indians, French or even Southern Americans speak to me in a different english accent. I suppose it's one thing to learn english as a second language, so I have a great amount of tolerance for it.

    The French-Canadians have taken on a language that can blurr a couple words into one, but they also create new words for technological references and feel strongly that for every english word, there should be an equivalent french word for it.

    There is however one small word that I absolutely cannot (notice the blurring) stand. I cringe each and every time that I hear the word "y'all" being used, overused, and especially being shouted.

    I have come up with somewhat of a nasty response to it: "w'all."

    PERSON: "Y'all goin' down to the restaurant t'night?"
    ME: "Yes. W'all want to eat dinner."

    Is there even a spelling difference between say British english and Australian/NZ english?

    The quebecers are an interesting bunch.

    y'all isnt that bad! :p maybe cause i tagged around NZ with a southern girl so i got used to it pretty quick. Its just kinda the quintessential southern thang

    i don't if it's a spelling difference as much as a grammatical difference And we also have words that the brits don't and vice versa. same with nz/australia.

    words like kai, ka pai, doona, moana, bach aren't in the british spell check but are in many nz/oz online dictionaries

    They were both rather offensive.

    Aristartle: I'm curious as to how close to Windsor do you live? I work in Detroit and mingle with Canadians all the time. I like to hear them say: processed, out, around, about the house and sorry, aye. The use of Y'all is a Southern United States term, although it is popular in black street language. Don't get too upset as to how people speak the english language, for it's probablly better than your or my Farsi.

    Sophie wins. That "commonwealth" statement was crap that I should have thought harder on. I'm tired. Hannah Arendt is good reading. I don't think I'm ever gonna make it to Welli, everything seems determined to make it too hard.

    And Auckland sucks. The only good thing in this world are marmite and soy-milk. And you guys... ...in fact... ...everyone is cool. Especially marmite.

    How the hell is y'all and her made up one offensive?

    It's usually "you guys" down here. But i love the slang words we have around here, it's what makes you unique.

    oooh, i know....

    british marmite ingredients:
    # Yeast Extract
    # Salt
    # Vegetable Extract
    # Vitamin: Niacin
    # Spices
    # Vitamins: B1, B2, Folic Acid, B12

    NZ marmite:
    * Yeast
    * Sugar
    * Salt
    * Wheatgerm Extract
    * Mineral Salt (508)
    * Color (Caramel)
    * Herbs
    * Spices
    * Vitamins: Niacin, Thiamin, Riboflavin

    according to the marmite website (oh man, i'm such a nerd)

    "Apart from the addition of Sugar and Caramel, the differences in ingredients are probably just down to the different labelling requirements of the two countries, and are basically the same. The addition of sugar is what gives NZ Marmite its "weaker" (some would say "less rancid") flavor."

    and i have have no idea about america....sorry.
