Marijuana Lingo

As with anything else, lingo & slang (what's the difference?) for marijuana has changed considerably over many years.

Long ago it was called Reefer, then that came to be another term for a joint.

In the 60s East Coast it was called Pot, Weed, Dope or Grass. Pot, Dope and Weed are still said but it's been a long time since I've heard it called Grass.

Other parts of the country called it Boo, Tea, Wacky Tabacky or Mary Jane. I imagine all those terms are long departed as well.

More recent terms are Kind, Chronic and Dank.

I'm sure I haven't covered all the bases, I'm just generalizing. I await your feedback!

We used to roll a "number" ( another word for a joint)

and we rolled that out of a "lid" which was a 4 finger width bag of weed... Way over an ounce, but nobody was weighing very often back then.


A lid used to cost $25-$35 for Columbian Gold... Fuck I miss that stuff.

Collect them all, and the next time you make chicken soup you throw them in the broth and boil the extracts out and then eat your chicken soup and get FUCKED UP 4hrs later.

Once upon a time British slang for marijuana was "muggle," so that's what I've always preferred to call it.

To the doper, shit means something very special, shit means shiiiit! Whatever you smoke, drop, shoot, snort, rub into your belly or whatever, is your shit. Especially grass. Most often referred to as shit. Yeah. "Got any shit?" "No, I'm outta shit, man" "Why don't you lend me some shit?" "You already owe me some shit."

But I wonder if one narc could go all the way through police academy and not know that shit means shiiiit? He might. Sure be in for a lot of surprises first day on the job, though. Some guy would roll up on him, "Hey! You wanna buy some shit?" "Well, I never thought about it, really. Where did you get the shit" Try to draw him out. Find out the identity of 'Mr. Big', right? "Well, we brought it back from Cambodia in a guitar, man, and we, um, made brownies out of some of it and we gave some away as a wedding present and we're selling the rest, man." I think stoners generally try to distance the word "shit" from pot these days, at least in my region. A woman asked me if I had any "shit" like a week ago, but she was asking for Crystal Meth.

There was also: Dimebag ($10 bag), and Dub ($20 bag). Since legalization, I don't hear those phrases anymore.

 

Newo, I think that in my experience "shit" always referred to crank, not reefer.

 

Calling pot "shit" is a late 60s/ early 70s thing. We also called it "dope" in the US from about the 20s. These days I've heard crack referred to as "dope".

Here we mostly just say weed, pot, and sometimes bud.

 

yeah, dope was crank or coke for me usually. shit being pot is weird to me. it was always crank.
