-anyone can be addicted to anything

-anyone can respond any way to any thing

-worse addictions than weed addiction: food addiction, tv addiction, people addiction, work addiction, coffee addiction, sleep addiction, ego addiction, material addictions...feel free to add to the list!

Been smoking pot since I was 16 and would say I'm well mentaly addicted. If I cant get any or there's none about then dont really bother me but when I've got money to burn its normally first thing I sort out is me next score.

We all agree that marijuana medicinally and socially beneficial right?

Using that logic, isn't labeling marijuana as "addictive" the same thing as labeling "walking your dog" or "playing sports" addictive?

Yeah man. ^^ I agree with that. So what does it matter if it's addictive or not? Unless you're being really stupid with your use of it.

Yes, I feel like I'm addicted to it sometimes. But I have it in the same way as with coffee (which I drink even more often then I smoke weed ;) ). I think it's more addictive then some people here think though, it just takes a while of intense smoking and it may even feel like it's not a big deal but it's mentally addictive for sure.
Some people here act like the people who say it's addictive (partially) caused it to still be illegal, so it's lame to say it is addictive. That's kinda stupid, weed isn't totally harmless, especially not if you smoke a lot for a long time. You have to keep an objective mind. I'd like it to be legal as well, but don't fool yourself by thinking you can smoke whatever amount you want without any consequences. Even if they aren't a big deal compared to other drugs.

Asmodean, can you enlighten me on what pot can to do you in large amounts? Because I know someone who has smoked since she was 16 (50 now) and she's still doing it. No adverse health effects so far. Remember, no one has ever died from smoking too much weed.

I'm not arguing with you on whether it's addictive or not, I just want to know why you think marijuana is harmful if you smoke a lot for a long period of time.

EDIT: Okay, breathing problems are the only thing I can think of, but that would take years of intense smoking, and that can be combated by taking a break every few months.

Ok, first of all I know some very intensive users as well who have no problems with their marihuana addiction neither. Not all people experience negative effects, but it doesn't mean that (what I've red in the marihuana forum several times before) that marijuana enlarges personal things and that for example weed doesn't makes you lazy, but enlarges the lazyness in a lazy person. It can also start issues in a person which wouldn't have come up if he/she wouldn't have used so much weed. I know these people as well.
A few of the most common things a marihuana addiction causes are of course the feeling to smoke everyday , postponing important stuff, more restless/diverted/clumsy (from experience, someone made a lot of excuses, for nothing, just because he felt insecure about his explainings, which were perfectly ok), less interested in others/less talkative, lazyness/apathic. I have the feeling I'm not hitting it exactly on the head, this could also be a description of a lot of other things :(. English is not my first language. Ah well, I think it are these things mostly. But it differs.

You didn't understand my post. That's not what I was asking.
    But nevermind.

Why do you call intensive users addicts?

It's clearly to see in my last post that it's mostly mental effects, not physical things like longcancer/breathing troubles and such. The annoying thing is that these things aren't only present in marijuana addicts, but also in persons who have just started and finding it really cool and stuff. Just as with the following: another thing that a marijuana addict will do is clearly act to people who also toke that marijuana is the most important thing in his/her life. So yeah... I also have the feeling if I watch some people, it can disorganize your mind after time.

And about that nobody never died from weed: well, maybe dying isn't the worst that can happen to a person. In the most extreme thing you can go paranoid , but those people probably were sensitive for it, I don't know. I'm not warning for the evil marijuana plant (on the contrary :D ), I just see people around me treating it too much as a soft drug as it is called here.

Because most of the most intensive users around me are marijuana addicts and I mixed these two things accidently up

The good thing is, most of the mental side effects you're talking about only last for the duration of the high, and they do not affect everyone.

As john lennon said: paranoia is the highest form of awareness.

Yeah, I already thought it sounded like just a decription of a stoned person. :D
What I ment is some of these effects can occur permanently as well. Not among his fellow tokers maybe, but also when a person's sober and at his workspace/parents he can be really nervous and disorganized. I saw it at two persons. And yes, I know it's not proven to be caused by the marijuana addiction, but I'm pretty sure that it is caused for a large part by it with these two fellows.

are you serious? offcourse we dont all agree on that..

medicinally? yeah if you are undergoing a chemotherapy or have some other problems that can be sorted out with pot. Otherwise it's like taking a medicine everyday even if your perfectly fine...only getting the side effects of it...

Socially... well this could actually be true for some people. Others could have the exact opposite and become more and more introverted. But honestly you can prefectly socially function without it

and comparing smoking weed to sports... well is just very hypocrtical I think...
Overall weed is still a harm ( argueably small) your doing to yourself... dont forget that.

That is such a lie. There are so many more things marijuana can be used medically for, such as insomnia, glaucoma, asthma, cancer prevention, just to name a few.
Nothing wrong with smoking it for recreation either.

as long as i have a dime or two in my closet, i can go a few days without smoking, knowing that i have a safety net to fall back on. but as soon as i cash my last bowl, all i can think of is getting more.

It's different for everybody. Their psychology, tolerences, life style... but for me when the weed isn't doing any thing for you in a positive way, that's when I know to stop. 6 months off, and waiting for my first grow to be harvested, then I'm back on.
