Words I live my life by. I am glad to be "unaware" and not participate in culture.

Yesss I love the beach and boardwalks of the Jersey Shore. That Teresa Guidiece, Soprano vibe in Bamboo and Karma the hedonistic abandon of the Jersey lifestyle.

Yet, the dark side beckons like a carnival ride barker, A Hurricane Sandy can come in and sweep it away.

    Future Awaits.......

What disaster do you speak of? and what bubble?

I freaking love culture. Maybe some find their meaning in life emerging themselves in it or at least be aware of it/take notice of it and and others by avoiding it. I don't see why it should be either one for everyone (not that you are claiming so!)

Law enforcement is becoming more militarized, they are killing more people armed right wing extremists are becoming bolder more visible. We are in trouble...no conspiracy about that.

I still don't get what's wrong with the beach. Like its not possible to fill your head with conspiracy theories and chill out, maxin, relaxin all cool on the beach at the same time? Psshh.

if anything the ocean has a way of putting things into perspective for me. It makes me feel tiny and unimportant, which is surprisingly a wonderful feeling.

As often as possible, I'll be on top of the highest mountains I can find.

The mountains appear to be a huge conspiracy to make water run downhill. ;)

why would anyone do anything fun ever? dont the sheeple know you have to sit in your house with your blinds drawn and do nothing but fill your head with the most depressing, shitty aspects of mankind?! Life is not to be enjoyed, sheep.

Yeah, there's nothing a one percenter fears more than a powerless person hiding in a room, feeling depressed. :wall:

I'd rather watch the boom, bust and wars of civilization from a garden on an island serenaded by birds. There's always the beach too.

Knowing the truth and being happy can coexist.

That sheep looks like it's there against it's will :p

About the question why chilling at the beach is a dubious pastime. That doesn't really interest me anymore, as I understand it is clearly not. It is subjective, and lots of people love it. It can also be combined with seeking truth in and the meaning of life very well. So.... who cares what a thread starter thinks about that :D

I am more interested in a comment like there are no (real) communities anymore. Even though we at first rigourously judged that as an out of proportion statement as well it might be interesting to hear Rat expand on that.

Why is that so or does it seems like that? How many people together qualify for a real community? :p Where you thinking big when you said that? When is a community a real community and why aren't there any anymore according to you? If it goes too much off topic maybe it is something for a different thread?

The key issue is how you define the word together, in this context.

All three of the small Southern towns I lived in qualified as real communities, because they enforced conformity to community values. It sucked.

I agree, it is not just about the amount of people in a certain place, but also what connects them in terms of them being in a community together. How they relate to eachother or if they can relate to each other at all :p You can have several different communities in one area...

Real community is when you depend on one another to live. People are together today, but they depend more on a bank account.

it isn't just the dark side people are missing, its most of the bright side too.

most people probably know they need oxygen, but its less then a majority who notice it exists in their everyday lives,
and fewer still who have the slightest idea where it actually comes from.

A lot of people are just living their life and aren't interested in accumulating facts. To each their own.

When you depend on people, they can tell you what to do. Dangerous.

This is what it comes down to imo as well.

We can make a fuzz our whole lifes about the stupid pastimes and preferences of others but as long as they're not infringing on other people's lifes (or impacting the environment in a too rigid and negative way) I wouldn't let it make me misanthropic :p
