Hm.. I read it like: meat and derivates both from chicken.. with the meat being at least 41% of everything in the can. *check*.. hm.. there is a very low protein rate in there yeah.. hm.. well.. I assume it's still better than the 'normal' catfood.. but it still isn't the same as what they would catch themselves probably. I bought chickenlivers today (which is reaallllly weird to do since I'm a vegetarian and it looks so bloody.. hehe.. got totally paranoid over bacteria as well). I gave the cat chunk of about 1,5 liver and a little bit of dry food (same brand as the canned food). Sometimes I add a bit of egg (fresh) to the dry food as well. And she just helped herself to some yoghurt, the nasty critter.. hehe.. that is MY desert damnit! I think she's been a stray cat for a while since she'll eat about anything.. normally I give her canned food in the morning and dry in the evening.. but she seems happy with anything, anytime. She even tried eating rabbitfood but that's wasn't too much of a succes I think It's not surprisingly though, since her own food contains so much wheat as well. Anyway.. I'm planning on giving her raw meat as a treat and maybe in the end shifting towards a raw meat diet, like on that website.
1/5th of the liver is probably a good amount. It shouldn't be fed more than once or twice a week. Liver is very high in Vitamin A and if given too much, a cat could get Vitamin A toxicity. :S When you give the egg, make sure you give both yolk and white, or if you want to give only the white, cook it. Egg white has something in it that depletes biotin and can cause a biotin defiency. But the yolk adds biotin back in.
Damn I know nothing Hope I didn't gave her too much of the liver.... Yeah, it was an egg that I beat up (that's probably not the right way of saying that.. sounds weird..).. so it had both the white and the yolk. May I ask how you know all this stuff? I find it very interesting but I'm a total n00b in this area..
It's alright, you'll learn with time! Just keep googling anything you want to know. I do alot of research on dogs in my spare time. I'm a bit obsessed lol. Last year I went on a "dog diet" binge, and I learned everything I could about food and ingredients and whatnot. It's not always great -- I got in an argument with a pet store owner last summer!
