I know exactly what'll happen. At first the whole world (in the state and mindset it's in now) won't even know what to say when a bunch of hippies come on the scene going against everything that modern society and entertainment stands for preaching a message of free love and rock 'n roll. But they'll catch on sooner or later, at least a few people will. Then a few more until it's mass revolution. It will be a gradual progression towards a Woodstock-type counterculture expolsion.
there are already counter-culture stuf going on. the world know exactly what to say to it. they say "ignore those people son, they are just lazy good for nothing, liberal druggies who will never amount to anything" they say it all the time. the only way to change things has 2 paths. a)by force, using violent methods to force the government to change or to overthrow the current govt. b)use a few very unpopular things the givt is doing (war in iraq, drug wars, invasion of privacy, etc) and inform people the truth. make the govt so unpopular that they wont be able to ignore this rabble of dirty hippys anymore. they will attack our protests that we make sure are peaceful even if we get assaulted. that way afterwards, we can point fingers and say "ha! see! look at them! the govt just beat up and assaulted hundreds of peaceful protesters!" the govt will be in hot water then and through events like that they will become more and more unpopular. their laws will be come less accepted and they will be forced to change and submit to our revolution. the only place any festival would have, is not to start a revolution. but to gather likeminded people and act as a meeting. and inform people who showed up what this is really about. it can act like a recruitment center. it cant be jus about rock and roll and drugs. thats the dumbest revolution ever. there has to be some real goals and beliefs. we use festivals to rally people to our cause. i also would not use woodstock as the name for the festival. that would cause way to many people to come and it would get out of hand like the last 2 in which people died at both. this isnt the 60s anymore. people wont sit around in massive numbers and be nice and calm. there wont just be calm nice drugs like weed and acid. people will be doing lots of coke meth and alcohal which would cause them to become aggresive and antsy.fights would break out and the whole point of the festival would shatter. you make a new festval with a new name and dont put hugely popular bands in. bands that will get enough people to come, but not bands that will get millions to come. and you dont make dumb mistakes like the rolling stones id and hire Hels Angels to be security. the only way i can see any success in this will invole some form of violence. i see the best way to get people on our side, the average american, is too expose things that would get the govt very unpopular. the cops beating our asses wont be very fun at all, but with CNN, the govt could never get away with it. this is a different time than the 60s and that means different ideas, tactics, and advantages.
we could use modern america to work for our advantage very easily. stuff going on now is very similar to things in the 60s that outraged americans. the wars are very similar. both unpopular, both not official wars, both fighting against gorrilas, both fighting in unfamilair territory, vietnam used the draft and iraq will be soon. if the draft is initiated, we inform people in how to resist it. you cant just run to canada anymore. that would help our cause since the draft would be very unp[opular just like in the 60s. in the 60s, there was the black civil rights movement going on. right now we have to whole immigration issue and also the gay rights movement. both our time and theirs were very similar. but we also have some advantages, we have CNN, the internet, and we can learn from the mistakes made by the hippys. all the things that are bad, can be a good thing! we use them to our advantage. we must work the system and trick the govt. they wil do things to shut us up, but we use that and turn it against them. if cops did attack protesters we remain peaceful and use that against them. we use the draft against them, etc. we must be smart and use our wits. of course this is all if a revolution does happen. we are at a SERIOUS and MAJOR disadvantage. in the 60s, kids wanted change. and they were willing to get up and change stuff. they also were aware of what was going on in the world and their country. they diddnt believe everything they heard. our generation is not like this. ive found most of our generation to be apathetic. they wont want to change and wont be motivated to unless something HUGE happens. most dont know shit about current events. even though they will be the leaders of the world in 10 years, most dont even know that isreal attacked lebanon. they cant make convincing arrguments and look credible in a revolution and no one will take them seriously if they dont know whats going on. also our generation mostly believe everything they hear from schools, parents, cops, and govt officials. so many kids in school would swear by their life that marijuana causes cancer, even though the Washington Post had an article where they proved that it actually PREVENTS cancer. they would swear that lsd and shrooms cause the brain to bleed. that money used for pot funds terrorism, and that we are in the middle east to cobat terrorism, not for oil. they are naive and gullible and ignorant. they must know laws and civics. but most do not. they purposly dont teach you anything in school about laws. majority of kids know 4 ammendments to the constitution. the one banning alcohal, the one saying alcohal is legal again, the one making slavery illegal, and the one giving women voting rights. and thats in my county which has the 2nd best schools in the whole country. so i bet most americans dont even know those. ignorance and apathy and gullibleness are the major major problems that hinder any type of revolution. these are MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR problems and untill they can be changed, which i highly dount they wll be without some major thing that punches them back into reality like the govt being caught lieing about something big or proof the govt can not be trusted and something that shakes their foundations of what they have been spoon fed for their whole life, nothing can be changed. thats why i personally beleive that our generation cant get much done. i think that maybe we can start something, but it will be out children i believe who will actually change things.
so lets start by making an agenda. what are things we want changed? drug laws must be abolished. must pull out of the middle east. put less money to military and more to public education and health care. completely abolish the draft. so that you dont even have to register, cause as l;ong as you have to register, they can reinstate the draft at ANY time. so please. any one who says they support this, do everyone a favor and get informed about laws. get informed about courts, and get informed about the constitution. it could one day save your life. back before all the current drug laws, there was the marijuana stamp act. this said that if you had a special stamp, you could buy marijuana legally. only problem was that they made no stamps and to get the stamp you had to have the marijuana in hand. this would cause self incrimination. when Timothy Leary was arrested for marijuana, because he was considered a threat to the govt, they were gonna put him in jail for life. but because he knew laws and knew his rights, he could prve beyond a doubt that the law was unjust due to self incrimination. soince you can onl;y be tried once for a crime, he went free and that law was destroyed. you MUST know your LAWS and RIGHTS as an american.
Well, if people aren't going to sit around in mass numbers and be calm and peaceful, then the entire purpose is defeated and I'm better off dead.
just sitting around wont do shit. im not sayign WE have to be the violent ones, just that we need to use things to our advantage. use the govt, use the media, and use the police. we use things to our advantage. the hippys were not entirely peaceful. they retaliated when cops attacked them. we dont want this to be soime little movement that only maybe 2000 people get into and it doesnt do shit. we want a REVOLUTION a real big change. just sittign around, and preaching peace wont do shit. you have to get out and protest, inform people, these are peaceful methods. you must FORCE the society to change and the govt to change if you want sucess. using peaceful methods doesnt mean constantly preaching peace peacce peace. your comment there is the kind of stuff that shows that you dont know shit about anything and you have no credibility whatsoever. you have to be intelligent and make intelligent comments. respond to the things asked and actually read the whole fucking post. if you had youd have seen that i never once said that we use violence. dont comment on something you skimed or only read a couple parts.
how to inform people you may wonder? its very easy. make a leaflett that talks about what you want changed. make the cover something that will catch peoples eye and make the intro something that will hit home and make the reader want to read more. hand these out at school, church, sports teams, boy scouts, anywhere.im planning on taping the ACLU show about why the drug war is bad and attempting to show it in health class next year. ill print that article from proving weed prevents cancer and share it in health. when im a senior im gonna make a leaflett about how to resist the draft and reason not to register. high schoolers dont have power to start and organize stuff, but they DO have power to inform people and attempt to get more kids in this lathergic and ignorant soceity to be ACTIVE and to be knowledgable about current events and their rights.
so now please do what i asked before and people start listing what you think we should focus on. i already put what i think the ,main points should be. what about you guys?
If I don't know shit and have no credibility then why are you even bothering to post? I know what I'm doing. I'm here for a reason. If people actually take the message of our music seriously, then they will protest and take action.
im not responding directly to you mostly, im talking to everybody. and no people should not take messages in music seriously. thats extremely stupid. not all music is about peace and love. what baout the countless hip hop songs about killing people? what about the emo songs about suicide? what would happen them? what about the song cop killers? no you dont take music messages seriously. you make your own views and your own thoughts. if you knew what you were doing you would be responding to the important stuff in my posts.
Music can either be taken seriously or not seriously. But a musician may take it VERY, VERY seriously when writing a piece. As it is, being a dedicated musician is no half-ass job. Especially when composing, a musician is often VERY serious about it. Music DOES influence people, and IS a quite important part of the lives of many. To say that music should not be taken seriously is to deny those whose lives have been changed in positive ways. It may also deny the pain and suffering those whose lives have been ruined by music may feel. What it all comes down to, is to know which piece to take seriously and which piece not to. But if WSC is aiming toward sending people positive messages via music, and if she REALLY wants to make that a reality, SHE SHOULD take it VERY, VERY seriously, which she seems to already be doing. That, to me, is an admirable action on her part.
mr. m, i think that you are almost dead on. Music is a wonderful thing that can HELP to motivate people and get them going. Music can solidify your beliefs and be the soundtrack to your life. But music will not insight revolution-- that most seriously, MUST be done through the mind. Through people getting together, through people thinking together...can we say "Group Mind?" We have to get our message out there...learning from the past will be a big thing. Put drug reform on the back burner...its a side issue. The government must be attacked at the core of its policy: the war, the lies, and the MONEY. In order for the truth to be spread, it must be spread. It must get to everyone. How about John Lennon's slogan "The WAR IS OVER... if you want it to be" that got peoples attention...you something that will peak people's curiosity. You need something that will make them respond to what it is you want to tell them. And you can not be offended if people are not immediately receptive to your message, and lets be honest, not everyone will agree. You have to get to the heart of the youth. Dont scare them with draft tactic, because that is highly unlikely. There are bigger issues..there are bigger lies out there. GET PEOPLE TALKING that is the big thing. If you get them talking, then you get them thinking. Get peope to think and then you have begun the revolution. As i have said before, MY revolution has already begun, and i am at the heart of it. The thing now is to really begin it within yourself, and spread it to others. In this day and age, it is harder than it was in the 60s, although perhaps more urgent. There is no more haight ashbury where ideas are following freely. People have jobs now, and that can be very distracting. That is why the youth will play such a big role in this revolution. They are not yet rooted. Keep em coming...with a little love, a lot music, and some higher thinking, we can change the world we live in...even if you dont agree
Take songs like Imagine. I believe he took the three things that cause war: land, religion and posessions, and told us to Imagine they weren't there, then to see if deep down we can all live in peace. We can, if we have TOLERANCE. That's a pretty good message to be taking seriously. If music has those kinds of messages then you're listening to the wrong music.
but you cant base any type of movement off music. im not trying to attack you, but from your posts it seems the only thing you know about is music. music can not solve problems. music has different meanings for everyone. every song will have a different personal meaning to the listener. you have to have political views, realistic goals, and be able to defend your views. can you discuss current events WSC? not just saying "the world is full of bad stuff and hate" but can you actually disscuss with me whats going on with the hezzballah(sp?) and israel? can you discuss anything to do with non-music? do you know anything about vietnam other than what you hear in songs?do you know why the vietnam war was so unpopular? do you know anything about the USS Coal? or the first attack on the world trade center? or the oklahoma city bombing? or the modern pirates off the african coast? or the fact the we were once fighting along side Osama Bin Laden and what would later become the Al Quida and the Taliban? can you discuss the US giving thousands of dollars to Saddam Hussein to make weapons of mass destruction so they could wipe out Iran when Iraq and Iran were at war? or the fact that while america publically gave money to Iraq they also gave money secretlly to Iran to help take out Iraq in hopes of both countries being wiped out? do you know why we are in the middle east right now? do you know why the DEA refuses to bust major drug lords or major production centers for drugs other than LSD and chooses to bust the individual users or small dealers? because if you dont know anything about any of that, then no revolution will work and you are just another one of those people i was ranting about earlier. one of those kids who doesnt know shit about the world around them and doesnt know shit about recent and current history and couldnt care less. you cant not hope to create peace unless you know about the reasons why there is no peace right now
Actually I think you mean 'doesn't have'. "If music doesn't have those kinds of messages, then you're listening to the wrong kind of music."
nopt everyone can distinquish which messages to take seriously and which to not. and who are you to tell someone they are listening to the wrong music? not all music has to have a meaning about peace. half of zeppelins songs are about sex, half the doors music is about sex. is this music the "wrong kind of music?"
well, i am not sure what exactly in being reinforced here... so, we all believe and peace and love and music, but why are being so focused on peace through ONLY music. You fond peace everywhere, and in everything you do. If your way to share your peace is through music, then that is great, and something i think a lot of people love. but you can not say that someone elses music is wrong...its just different. Maybe their goal is not finding that "enlightenment" through music...maybe it is simply a relief or other type of outlet. i dont know all the answers, but it seems like things have gotten a bit off track.
