I'm not familiar with the Flaming Lips, but I've heard of them.

The Stylstics are a band from the 70's that have an R & B or souls style. Most of what their songs are about love, sentimental 70's pop. They are not as intense as Marvin Gaye, Al Green or Gladys Knight. I think the Stylsitics most popular song is "Betcha By Golly Wow" from 1971.
