Dude111 thats what happens when everything revolves around the all mighty dollar and keeping the stockholders happy. cut every corner possible and hope to beat the street next quarter.
Capitalism ruins everything... Note to all musicians; If you really care about music, stay the hell away from the music business... your music will be freer, cleaner and more substantial to culture. ZW
You take it to the people, to the streets, upload it to the web, whatever.. These days one must create their own opportunity. ZW
My god, how true is this. It's so hard to find decent music these days. But there are many gems out there, fortunately. I tend to look to other countries' underground music to find the good stuff. Then, of course, there's the oldies but goodies... things around before my time, but are still available, thank heavens.
i agree that the contemporary mainstream music is complete BS. but it's a way to make a living for some people. beats working long hours in a factory or customer service. and it sells, even though the audience is almost entirely below 15. then, again, the artists who are involved in the contemporary mainstream aren't themselves geniuses either. they wouldn't make it as a serious artist, so this is what's left. and there's a venue for them, so they exist. and there are plenty of bands, artists out there for whom music is passion and they too have their record deals. they aren't played on mainstream radio in Europe though. in the US the radio stations are a bit more varied, so it's not a problem in the states. if you don't like britney spears there are plenty of rock and alternative stations out there who've seemingly never even heard of her. in Europe the story is very limited, however, and pretty much only the mainstream pop music gets aired. so if you're in Europe, which i assume you are by your avatar, i would suggest finding another source for new music than radio stations.
I don't quite get the whole oldskool music is soooo much better... all that's happened is the shit from the old days has died out if you look back you can find utter shit from the 60's 70's 80's.....
You're absolutely right... ...but some of the good stuff was absolutely fabulous! (you can tell by how much of it is still being recycled in todays music) IMHO that brief 25-30 yr span will go down as one of music historys 'golden' eras.
Mainstream pop is all that gets aired over here too bro. it doesn't matter if they call it rock, rap, country, whatever. it's all become pop music if it's on the radio now a days. then they repeat the shit out of it. to me there is no use for mainstream radio anymore. as an artist you can start your own label and do everything via the internet. they can have the airwaves.
I disagree. The mediocre stuff from the 60's and 70's is better than most of the chart-busters today. Random examples: Ramblin' Man by the Allman Brothers was #79 in 1973. Money by Pink Floyd was #92. Papa Was A Rolling Stone by the Temptations was #100. I rest my case. Hits of 1973
well, you haven't heard european radio stations then. they are much much worse than american ones. at least US has stations where they air bands like Three Days Grace, One Minute Silence, Bell X1, etc etc, music which is not mainstream pop. plus US has oldie stations and others that play a particular genre. there's a lot more variety in US than europe.
i have classic motown cds and 3/4's IMO aren't that good but the 1/4 is gold. i don't get why people have to decide musics dead now all the old bands were the best Cry cry cry... That's just negative thinking and you're more likely to dislike it just because you've decided before you've heard it it's shit.

I totally agree with OP. Love indie music. It's not hard to expand your horizons. Just go to amazon and put in a band you love. Then look at similiar items and click around. For example: Searching the Cure shows ---> Interpol---->Modest Mouse----> A shitload of other awesome indie bands. What I've just shown you (re)started my whole musical world in my adult life. Enjoy
