I try to avoid buying stuff made overseas, but if that's not possible, I'll settle for free trade. I do whatever I can to help alleviate poverty worldwide, but supporting a system of forced labor isn't going to do that.

Oh no! A billion Chinese are going to cross the Pacific Ocean in their junks and impregnante our women with their yellow seed!

Seriously though, it doesn't matter how many men they can arm with rifles because if there was a war EVERYBODY would be dead in minutes, and this is ridiculously obvious to both governments.

A question for Sheldom: Don't you find it a bit ironic that the world's most powerful communist country is one of the best places on earth for Western capitalists to exploit labor? Surely with an abundance of communist ideology someone has noticed this?

Unfortunatly most of GM, Ford, Chrysler and Saturns parts that are used to make their products comes from overseas. So basically theres still labor going on outside of America in the construction of those products.

And buoying up the economy overseas also opens up new markets as people get wealthier and make more purchases, some of those purchases are gonna be American made, India is on the way of becoming a very significant market.

Don't disregard the effect an under-valued Chinese currency is having on the price of their goods.

then if you look to raw material, little is made completely in one country. I was thinking solely the end product manufacture: which plant tightens the botls sort of thing, for eth person who "had never heard of anything made in the usa."
I didn't start with the mills in the south, the few that still run, or how about the simplot potato plant in Idaho? McD fries ring a bell? think about how many must be made and packaged.

It has nothing to do with racism as it does with other factors. In the case of China, I (and many others) consider this country to follow a foreign policy that is hostile to the US. Most of the profits made on such merchandise sold here go to fund military activities which will likely, sooner or later, be used against us if were not careful!
