Mad Max: Fury Road Movie Blurb by Shale May 18, 2015 On Saturday, May 16 I sent out a DVD Blurb about Tracers, in which I mentioned that there were no new movies this week that I had to see, that I had thot of Mad Max for a moment but said Nah!. I got a response from a friend: "Don't blow off Mad Max sir. I felt that way but have been quite surprised at the large number of extremely positive reviews (the NYT which never seems to be positive on sci-fi like films near gushed) by writers and friends. On my agenda for later in the week. Frankly I was a bit surprised. The NYT usually shits all over sic-fi and sequels and re-boots. The enthusiasm was scary, then the Philly and Chicago papers were gaga and finally the local guy gave it five stars. - Cliff" That got me online and the first thing I checked was Rotten Tomatoes where the aggregate reviews were 98% fresh and 92% of audiences liked this movie. Their Critics Consensus was: "With exhilarating action and a surprising amount of narrative heft, Mad Max: Fury Road brings George Miller's post-apocalyptic franchise roaring vigorously back to life." So, that was my movie to see today and Thanx for the heads-up Cliff, it was an exciting Road Trip! The movie was a simple story and by design was complete action from the opening scene almost to the final. This is the fourth movie and a reboot of the franchise - and I can see a sequel coming out of it. Like the others, the setting is a dystopian future world, destroyed by nuclear war and mostly desert, where the ppl have not lost their mechanical abilities in building the most bizarre machine oriented culture. Max (Tom Hardy) gives a voiceover opening dialogue explaining how everyone is just in survival mode and he is actually a bit mad, haunted by demons of his past, the ppl he could not save. He is captured by the white-painted, hairless, branded warriors of Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). One of the warriors, Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) is taking a tanker with escort to get fuel but it turns out she is secretly smuggling Immortan Joe's harem to freedom. Gets discovered and there is a running battle thru the dessert with the most bizarre pieced together vehicles/war wagons. Furiosa Max is dragged along on this battle, by his personal captor Nux (Nicholas Hoult) where he eventually escapes and falls in with Furiosa. (That little sentence didn't give the details of all the fighting that took place in the interim, including between Max & Nux and Max & Furiosa) Max Max, Furiosa and eventually Nux team up to take on an army of Immortan Joe's road warriors including a running battle inside a huge sandstorm with sand tornados - great special effects there. Road Warrior Comrades in Arms I couldn't give you too many details of this movie if I wanted to other than it was non-stop action overcoming one adversity after another with the most bizarre culture of suicidal warriors wanting to get into Valhalla. Not only is everyone decorated with brands all over their hairless bodies, they take a vehicle into battle with amplified drums and guitarist. Guitar (Sometimes Battle Axe) This movie was a visual treat. I saw it in 2-D but I can tell it would be much better in 3-D. I too am in the 90 plus percent who enjoyed this movie.
I saw the movie today and I was very impressed. You know a movie is great when you show-up for an 11:00 am weekday matinee and the theatre is ¾ full. George Miller’s vision lives on Hotwater
A must see in 3D, I was blown away, went because my neighbor was amazed by all the reviews he read.. I didn't think much going in, but I'm planning to see it a second time while it's still in 3D in the theatre This was a masterpiece of its own apocyalpse (sp?) universe. For people who like tom hardy, it's as if they found a whole cast of his personality
