Sometimes I'll go out to grab a quick bite to eat, but most of the time I power right through it so I can get shit done and get outta there at reasonable time.
I tend to have snack breaks on the same schedule as the cig smokers have their smoke breaks. and honestly i'd rather skip the lunch break and leave early. it's a big fat bump right in the middle of my groove, and it throws me off the rest of the day. Let me work through, and I'll finish my work and then some. interrupt me? shit, I'm about useless the second half of the day. once of the best places I worked let me break my lunch time up into 4 15 minute breaks, plus the two regular 15s for my 9 hour shift. so I'd work for a bit, grab a 15, have a snack, couple deep breaths, etc. maybe a cig if I smoked at that point, then back in, and my productivity didn't suffer. HR didn't mind it, because so long as I clocked out for that total of an hour, they were covered. We had a new manager come in, decide that he thought I was gaming the system (somehow) and forced me to take my hour every day at noon (my day started at 9am) so my productivity was absolute shite after that. just as I was getting into a good groove and working along 'go take your break, quit trying to game the system for extra time paid' 'dude, check with hr, it's all legit. I'm not getting any extra time out of this, but I'm getting a lot more work done.' 'I don't care. you'll take it when I say you do.' needless to say, that didn't last long. he started riding my case about my performance, and even his boss was like 'look, dude was doing just fine, it was working for him, working for us, his productivity was good, and he didn't start having issues til you showed up and screwed with a working system.' so he found a reason to try and fire me. (he accused me of sexually harassing the secretary he was sleeping with. that I had precisely zero interest in) it was kinda funny that it was the /best/ reason he could come up with, and even then, HR was like 'this is specious bullshit, but since he's your manager, we have to take this complaint seriously.' I said 'look this is bullshit, but if I leave, you guys give me a good reference then.'
it depends on what i'm doing at the time, but assuming i'm at the office i usually run over to the local deli nearby and bring lunch back to my desk so i can go through emails or something while eating. of course, i never get to do that because i'm busy talking to the line of needy people that are perpetually coming through my office. but yeah, i definitely don't take a lunch "break." i'm there long enough as it is, i have no desire to be stuck there even later trying to catch up. i'm sure it depends on the window. it can be kind of depressing looking out my window at the crazy homeless people that hang out at the gas station across the street, or listening to the constant sirens going by.
This is one of the most annoying parts of being a supervisor. It's like being a parent--countless questions and mini crises, all day. And it never ends.
yep. and 95% of the time it's something that they are perfectly capable of handling on their own anyway. or at least should be, if they had paid attention when things were explained the first time.
I have to keep my sarcasm and contempt in check because of this. Most of the questions are asinine and the crises are anything but.
I only eat at home. When i first started at my job i used my lunch break for naps. I would take them when i knew nobody was using the break room. Then my supervisor told me i couldn't do that anymore. :/ So now i don't take lunch. Luckily i work the drive thru at my bank so my seat is facing the window. I could see how it would make a difference. Watching the birds and squirrels play. Looking at trees, watching the sky get dark, seeing beautiful women walk by, etc.
I don't trust drive thrus at the bank...or anywhere. I won't use em. Nothing personal, Darkness. It's not you, it's me...
That's kind of cool I've never seen that. One thing I look forward to at a bank is running my hands along the velvet ropes.
I use the online banking for my accounts rarely need the physical bank anymore unless I'm consolidating loans etc. My dad doesn't trust online though so every week or fortnight he gets his pension he's down the bank and he always says every time they try talk him into an ATM card or something and he's like no, I prefer to do this the old way so he can see what's happening lol.
I've only used online banking to check my balance. When i want to do a transaction i prefer the old way too. I just rather be face to face but i could see the convenience of doing everything online. I prefer to do my shopping online (not food shopping). ATM machines i don't trust. Lots of scams going on with that now a days.
Give grocery shopping a chance. Not sure of the processes where you live but I personally think it's fantastic. like every now and again something will be out of stock which is annoying because you know damn well of you went there there'd be a rack of it, but I find meat etc. is better online. As they have to "match" your order, if you buy a 250g cut of meat and the closest they have is 300g then you get it for the price of 250. Same with veges, I always seem to get more than what I order. I have to online bank as most of my income comes from property rent back "home" and well, that bank isn't where I live so I must internet bank.
When i typed "not food shopping" i meant except food shopping. My fault for the confusion. Like when i buy other things i prefer to use Amazon. But yeah i prefer to do food shopping face to face as well. Maybe weird but i find it kinda fun. Sometimes i'll find something new that i want to try. Plus when it comes to food, i got to have it now.
I remember the first time I moved out of home, we went shopping for the first time. I thought it was so fun.. Not so much anymore lol.
we were just talking about the windows at work today, and i remembered the time a couple years ago the police all pulled guns on someone directly outside our office windows. yeah, windowless offices don't sound all bad to me. i'll use any drive through except the bank. granted, i basically just bank online now anyway, but even before i never used it. to be honest, i mostly just never learned the process, and didn't want to look stupid.
