Your wrong, and partially right. Oct. 6th 1966-LSD is declared illegal in California Oct.24th 1968-Possession of LSD is banned federally in the U.S. after the passage of the Staggers-Dodd Bill (Public Law 90-639) which amended the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act I did say in the U.S. http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/lsd/lsd_timeline.php Notice that it was declared illegal as an amendment to the Pure Food and Drug act. Actually not illegal but banned. There is a legal difference between the two as I mentioned in the post.
^^Idk why,but I thought it was made illegal with cannabis in 1971. Cannabis went on/off prohibition right? and was legal with LSD in the 60s?
70-71 is where the system of scheduling drugs started. After the late 60's Nixon started "the war on drugs" and created the DEA in 73 , part of what they do is administer the Controlled Substances Act which was passed in 1970. I think the CSA is what you're thinking of, when all the various "illegal" drugs were codified into federal law.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leary_v._United_States Leary v. United States, 395 U.S. 6 (1969 ), is a U.S. Supreme Court case dealing with the constitutionality of the then-current version of the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 . Timothy Leary , a professor and activist, was arrested for the possession of marijuana in violation of the Marihuana Tax Act. Leary challenged the act on the ground that the act required self-incrimination , which violated the Fifth Amendment . The unanimous opinion of the court was penned by Justice John Marshall Harlan II and declared the Marihuana Tax Act unconstitutional. Thus, Leary's conviction was overturned. Congress responded shortly thereafter by repealing the Marihuana Tax Act and passing the Controlled Substances Act to continue the prohibition of certain drugs in the United States He didn't have one of these; Without that tax stamp, you couldn't grow, produce, transport or sell marijuana. But in order to get the tax stamp you had to show proof of that you actually were growing, producing, transporting or selling marijuana and once you did that well you were in violation because you were growing, producing, transporting or selling marijuana without the stamp. It was the exact same catch-22 bullshit they used to regulate automatic weapons (machine guns) in 1934; The National Firearms Act.
