An IP address gives a pretty good indication of where you live, and if you use Facebook on the same PC, everything you've searched on the web since joining(if you have) will be in their databases, not to mention all your pictures, information etc..

just go and download a copy of the Tor browser and your IP will be almost impossible to track unless they are REALLY after you.
It is slow though, but it does bounce your packets around the world through different servers and it does work.
