I had a friend from Germany who loved Asian(mostly Japanese) music. He played a few songs for me sometimes but I never really got into it, except what I heard on anime' sometimes.

I've always listened to Mexican and Cuban music (I live in the U.S.) but also other songs on the "Spanish" radio and TV. (I used to listen to Shakira before she crossed over, but not so much since) As an adult, I've gotten into Violeta Parra and Mercedes Sosa. Today I was listening to Macaco and Bebel Gilberto. I listen to a good bit of African music, especially Ethiopian music but also Fela Kuti, Ali Farka Toure', etc.

There's also quite a few French bands I like and German music.

I want to get into Haitian music now. It seems odd that I never have. I've had quite a few Haitian friends but I guess we never shared music.

I've also always listened to Native American (U.S.) music, but that's not really foreign.

Oh. I think you're asking if you live in a different country if you love the music of that country? I thought you meant do you listen to music that is foreign to the country you live in.

I hear a lot of Dominican music on a daily basis. It's not too bad. Probably would be better if I knew much Spanish...gonna have to learn one day.

I want to learn Spanish too. My German speaking, reading, and writing is between intermediate and expert despite the fact I studied it for 7 years in school. I just have no one to converse with :/ I've learned conversational French and Russian. My Russian is pretty good but I cannot read Cyrillic to save my life!!!

I love French rap… its so…. unf!! Sexy too. They mostly rap about political and social issues, which is great compared to the version we have in the US.

I also like some Spanish like, Prince Royce…. he's good. He's really smooth. He songs about a woman's beauty and appreciating her unconditionally. Makes me want to make a real attempt at learning Spanish :)

Well...about rap...I'd say there's quite a few U.S. rappers who rap about political and social issues but the U.S. radio and video stations won't play them! So you have to go searching for them.

That said, I speak and comprehend French very little, but I do love a good portion of the music.

Yes, you're right. There are people discussing broader issues, just not mainstream or anything.

I listen to tons of non-English foreign music... especially new wave and post-punk from the early 80s.

The only music from Asia that I liked so far is branches of folk music. Their pop music sounds just as awful if not worse as ours :p Oh yeah, I also love me some japanese rock but the ones I like are all heavily influenced by western blues or psych rock so can't call it real foreign music.

I absolutely love Tropicalia. I think it's one of the best genres of music that has ever existed, and Portuguese is one of the most beautiful languages in the world.

If you watch Korean top 40, do you know the name/have a YouTube link to the twenty-something Korean guy with weird dark hair and black horn-rimmed glasses who plays acoustic guitar and sings on one video while books blow up and sprinkle down around him?
The song lyrics are mostly in Korean, but English words like "For me" and "I know you say" are interspersed. Also, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil, for thou art with me," then the "Now I lay me down to sleep" words, before switching back to Korean to end the song. He plays with great intensity, rosin dust flying all around him.

Nice choices! I am quite fond of Gal Costa and Os Mutantes myself. I had Gal Costa's debut album cover as my sig pic just a few weeks ago.
