A Canadian sniper shot an ISIS fighter from 2.2 miles away (3.5 km). The longest confirmed shot in military history. The previous record was about 1.5 miles. The bullet was in the air for about 10 seconds, atmospheric conditions, wind, and the rotation of the Earth had to be taken into account. Gruesome but amazing. http://youtu.be/Ez5payykwE4
opposition party is raising a stink about it here as we are not supposed to be in a combat role there at the moment http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/sniper-iraq-combat-mission-mulcair-1.4175799
Yup. Why risk retaliation from isis when other countries can get the job done and have terrorists go after those countries.
Theyhave the technology these days to video camera the scope and cross hairs. I want to actually see it.
How is there not a certain amount of luck to it though, a target barely a foot across from 3.5 km away In that, they try this shot 100 times, it hits once and then they pretend it was all skill The earths rotation had to be taken into account? Come on I call a certain amount of BS
I noticed there are not one but 2 very detailed sniper focussed games out (it always suprises me if a game focusses and specialize on a real specific part of gameplay/setting, to find out another studio is doing it as well!). One is called Sniper elite. Seems right up your alley!
It worked when he did it, and the guys dead so I'd hardly call it BS. Yes it's a long shot, but there's a little luck in everything, good or bad. I know that whenever shooting most ammo beyond 400+ yards, windage and elevation can become a factor. At over 2 miles, I can imagine the earth's rotation might be a factor. When you consider that precise of shot at that distance... I have done long-range bow shooting as practice for hunting. I found it vastly improves my ability to shoot at close range where most shots are taken.
I played the ghost recon which I think know sniper elite 2 and it's trash I mean it's coo with the bullet drop and leading target and stuff but it's just a really buggy unrealistic game and to me I good sniper game should be likes one shot deal, maybe sneak into position. Sounds boring but make it realistic. Take your shot and gotta get out. These games were like take a shot then bring out the machine gun and go full Rambo on everyone. Totally uncool lol. My fav. Was always CoD2 sniper. You shoot someone with a .308 and they stay down. Battlefield you hit them with a .50 and they keep running. Tsk tsk. I was a good little sniper in CoD2 capture the flag. There were some maps I was so good at and I I just had a knack for it. =p I am the definition of camper but seriously wtf else ya gone do with a scoped rifle? Camping is the fun and they know you're there. They can get you.
WOW! Is it safe for me to stick my head out here yet? I might get shot in the head by a sniper or hunter or maybe I will get hit by a car out of control going 140 miles per hour..... Not really funny, but JESUS CHRIST!!!!!
Yeps its a good tactic. It's how I'm mostly killed in online shooters Also by my own lack of patience... I usually try camping, then no enemy comes into my sight, i leave, get killed by a camping enemy from afar
The Canadian military is parodied and ridiculed, mostly by people who don't know that we had the world's largest navy during WWII and were renowned during the Cold War for our anti-submarine warfare ability, usng purpose-built destroyer escorts such as the St. Laurent (257) class. Now, out of the blue, one of our JTF2 boys from Dwyer Hill Road, off Highway 7 just west of Ottawa, gains global fame for an 'impossible' shot and sanctimonious Mulcair gives off about it. I don't think so. I'm happy to see the NDP go to bat for social funding issues to provide a check and balance to more parsimonious parties but I think he's being a little precious in bitching about the loss of one ISIS fighter, who might well have killed dozens (mainly civilians - that's their forte) and maimed and tortured others. One of the things that keeps ISIS fighting is the understanding that for the most part if they're captured they won't face really scary punishments, such as being flogged to death. They'll merely be stuck into an orange jumpsuit and if wounded will be treated. The prospect of being shot randomly by people they can't see, can reduce their enthusiasm. Bravo Zulu!!!
Only for navy divers. We were still using double-hose Aqualung regulators - EVEN IN THE ARCTIC - in the 1970s, when civvies were using state-of-the-art Poseidon ice-free regulators - the Cadillacs of the sub-sea set. However, much of our equipment, land, sea and air was NATO standard, including the FN rifle (Fabrique Nationale, Belgium) 7.62mm. Our pilots flew the same warplanes as the US and UK and much of NATO and our destroyer escorts, destroyers and frigates did the job fine (though we were profiled more for anti-submarine warfare than navies with denser surface armament). The Smith and Wesson 9mm parabellum HiPower pistol was a bit long in the tooth but the Brits and others were still using it and it was good fun on the range. No Glocks or Sig Sauers admittedly My cavalry colleagues aren't here at the moment or I would have asked about current tanks and armoured vehicles but I think we kept our end up. There are not many troops in the world who aren't glad to see Canadian forces show up. Their main quality is lack of bombast.
