14 days in a remote fire camp in the Yaak River country of Montana in August of 1973 till a premature snow put the fire out. No tents., no nothin, just out in the open in an old clear cut. Boiled “gut bags” for food.
Sounds memorable for sure. Only been to Montana once but it was epic. Spent four days in the Beartooth Range climbing the mountain we both have as part of our screen name.
at first i thought you were saying that the world record for time outdoors was 17 days. i'm really not sure what my record is. probably when i went camping for about a week in west virginia, but that technically doesn't count because i think i did step inside a building a few times during that. i know i pooped at the mcdonalds in the nearby village once or twice, and i think we might have visited a nature center before climbing one of the bigger mountains. also, i kind of feel like i should change my name to granite420 or something to participate in this thread. sorry to ruin the granite streak.
Or we could have a thread centered on rhyolite which is the fine grained extrusive version of granite!
We camp out for 23 days in Nothern Ontario. Sleeping in tents, with only a camp stove and potable water. We dug a hole for cold storage, packed in with ice. Best tan I ever had in my life. Swimming, fishing, hiking, exploring.... Great times
Longest I've ever stayed outdoors is about a week....when I was kid and we went camping. I don't care for camping, and I burn easily. I don't mind being outdoors if I am at a lake or something like that, though.
I once spent 9 days in the swamp, living off the land. It was a great experience, spending time in the forest. I was about a mile away from the river. Other than the motor from a passing boat,or plane fly over was just the sounds of the woods.
A week on the Olympic rain forest camping--hiking. Walked right in the middle of a sleeping bunch of elk and they jumped up and stampeded away from us. We were startled! (non consecutive: 1967' through to 2012 worked as a roofer. So---thousands.)
