For four years, I worked with a guy of African American, white and Filipino descent. He kept his hair mid back and wore several versions of buns quite well. (Rule at the job was long hair had to be up and back.) We shared tips and tricks, and found what worked with what textures. Since his texture was a natural relaxed curl (sproinging coils, not zigzagging) much of what I do modified well for him. We both got attitude from the weave wearers.
i'm pretty sure i hadn't been born yet in greek or roman times. on this earth anyway. cool is a demographic, not a universality. there will always be some for any given thing, who consider it cool, and some who do not. i agree long hair looks better then short on almost anyone, but it can also be a pain in the ass to maintain and keep it comfortable. for some carnivorous species it can be an inconvenience to get caught on thorn bushes too.
I remember when long hair on guys was decidedly not cool. In college I had grades docked, was thrown out of student teaching, followed around stores, pulled over by police, denied jobs, and left a few bars in an awful hurry.
I have a Military background, therefore, I've always been a short haired kind of guy. Throughout high school, I wore my hair a little longer, but, nowhere near as long as most of my classmates. My dad would start to hassle me to get a hair cut as soon as 2 weeks after getting one. The name of my hairstyle back then was the Princeton. Today, I sport a hairstyle called the crew cut.
