Explosion on the London tube, no deaths, but 22 injured. It's the 5th terrorist attack this year. Terrorist not yet caught. But with CCTV in London, I hope and suspect it won't be long! https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live/2017/sep/15/parsons-green-tube-explosion-closes-london-district-line-live-updates
Not sure, cobra meeting I'm gathering makes it a real threat, but who knows?. I dread to think the damage that could have been caused had the thing gone of correctly.
Thanks for the heads up. This was just breaking news when I left for work this morning and there was very little info. Will try to catch the 6 pm news for an update.
cnn is 24/7 trump bashing, with only enough coverage of actual news to maintain the fiction that they are a news station
The All Trump All the Time Network. Thats mostly all the news networks these days Anyways I'm glad this didn't kill anyone. I guess thats all I can say about it. Horrible
Seems to me a lot of people in the past were saying the media shouldn't hype these attacks as it just emboldens the terrorists.
I have to use the tube on Sunday, around 1:00. Should be fine around then, but all this "London will not be intimidated" stuff cracks me up. If I were to get blown up or something I would feel very intimidated.
lol I guess they can't very well say "We're stuffed!" No deaths, thank goodness, it could have been devastating. A lot of traumatized people though, I'm sure. ISIS have apparently now claimed it, but then they've claimed others they had nothing to do with, so we'll have to wait and see.
I realize deaths are the popular news threshold for severity, but some of these people are injured and mained for life. We never hear about those figures. I'd like to know how many were blinded, crippled or got half their face blown off and will be freaks of nature for the rest of their lives. THAT will bring this home faster than the number of dead.
Sadly it is those worst affected, that suffer the most, with the least amount of recognition and support. The Media may use their imagery as/for shock value, but tend not to stay around for the aftermath and consequences in latter years - too busy concentrating on (non) celebrity activities, antics and atrocious actions of immaturity
Thats another annoying part, The Media? And if they did a follow up ten years later, would you really give a shit You might if its on some Sunday night news program and you were going to be sitting in front of the telly anyway, but apart from that you wouldnt The Media? the media just goes for whatever gets the most ratings, the most clicks nowadays Anyone that says The Media like that, you are talking about YOU, YOU tend to click on whats most shocking and tend not to stay around for the aftermath
Another annoying one is "we can never let the terrorists win" Win what? An 18 yr old the first to be arrested this time, as if he is going to have a clue anyway Everyones going to go to work the next day anyway, what else they going to do An 18 yr old immigrant or first generation immigrant pissed off he came to UK, didnt get a bunch of money handed to him, doesnt get to have a white girlfriend? Dumb fuck gets to spend his life in jail, or what seems to happen now, police when they find them dont take any chances and just shoot What did he think was going to happen? Oh you poor thing, here is a bunch of money, here are 5 white girls you can marry
Yes. In response to Meagain's post about the media earlier in this thread, I was going to say that the frenzied 24/7 news cycle and hyper reporting probably does add to the effects of terrorism (in creating morre terror) And I was going to say an in depth investigation and analysis of terrorism, the countries who support it, the west's involvement in the middle east, etc would be a responsible way of reporting on these events But I realized, who would even read that And people who complain about the media the most are usually the ones least likely to read any kind of in-depth analysis
Whilst that may be a valid generality, and many do not make a follow up to a knee jerk Pop concert and/or campaign and pledge for Peaceful response, don't be thinking that all are the same - it's a matter of sustainability and conscience
