All these poor people losing their homes and their businesses. This is what it must have been like in Iraq, only without the massive loss of life.

Just watched some 70 year old jeweler whining about how he has lost his business. Fair enough, but think of it this way. Does he sell diamonds? Has he ever in his life all this time making money from dealing in diamonds spared a thought for all the blood that has been spilled in the diamond industry?

Poor him, but also poor all the african children who have been raped and had their hands and feet cut off in wars that have been waged over diamonds.

    It's worth thinking about.

^^they look happy in their work though.

All these shops that have been trashed, how many deal in unethical products?

I feel sorry for the small local shops that been hit, but Tesco, Miss Selfridge, Sony... maybe in a way they deserve it.

It's sad for all the people who have lost their jobs and homes and I am not condoning the violence, but karma has a way of coming round sometimes.

Yeah .... but in the end it's gonna be the man on the street paying for everything. Taxes, insurances, the lot. So those people get fucked over 3 times in the end.

It's always the working man who pays for everything.

    ****

Some Mancunian guy was talking about the bomb in 1996 that ripped the heart out of Manchester city centre. I was there when it happened, living in student accommodation about 1 mile from the centre. I was on the 6 floor with my window facing the centre and my window was open, I remember getting wakened by my window slamming shut two times. I got up and had a shower, no idea what was going on. I walked along Oxford Road to work in a pub and there were loads of people walking in the same direction out of the centre.

Took them the good part of two years to get it back to normal, and now it's trashed again..

    I've decided I'm over it

Since I realised that even though it will probably be over in a week, we wont hear the end of it till the Olympics

While I liked and agree with the rest of your post, this part kind of contradicts itself. If we want revolution, we can't demand peace while inciting violence. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

If we want peaceful change, it must be attained through peace. If we want those who oppress us to suffer, then the way of violence would seem to be the road to take. Unfortunately, if we look at history, there's not much to suggest that peaceful revolution has ever worked.

^^Sure, because peaceful revolution is clearly working, isn't it.

If you are repeatedly getting kicked in the nuts by a man, and you ask him politely to stop and he continues- what then is the best way to get him to stop?

I don't think any of these looting lunatics have got revolution in their minds though. They just want some free shit, and to cause trouble, because they are all fucked in the head.

Every mass riot ends up becoming an excuse to break shit and steal things. Which is why most never amount to anything.

It never amounts to anything because there aren't enough of us standing up to the police.

What? If there aren't enough of you, should it amount to anything? I mean, surely that means the vast majority don't agree with you.

They think the same of you, for sure. You cannot place the value of one idea above the other in a democracy.

Isn't that the whole point of a democracy though, that the most popular idea is the one which is upheld?

Only it rarely ever is, is it...

    **

Blackberry has apparently been hit by hackers who are angry that they are co-operating with the police over the use of their encrypted network throughout the riots.

Why not? Your idea is that they are wrong, their idea is that you are wrong. The democratic outcome is whoever is greatest in number wins.
