Local legends.

we have this old guy who's somewhere under four foot tall and he always has an unlit half-smoked cigarette hangin from his mouth. story goes, he used to follow the buses from stop to stop, making notes for about five years like some self-proclaimed official, and eventually the bus company gave him a job.
which he's now been doin for about 15 years.

always wears a high-visibility jacket as well.
and he never walks anywhere, he shuffles - almost runs - everywhere! as if tryin to keep up with longer-legged people.

very strange.


and we also have this one guy who's about 30, has a buzzcut with bald patches, and wears a reversible orange/black parka jacket.
he always has food on his face, and he goes into supermarkets and steals the promo CDs from music magazines and tries to sell them to people on the street.

absolute legends.

 

Yes it is. I fucking love the highlands. All my favorite places in Louisville all along the same street. The band in your sig pic has spent a lot of time there......have you spent much time around here?

Not Long After I Made That Post.........I Made My Usual Daily Trip To Town.

Picked Up My Mail...... And Before Heading Home Decided To Buy Some

Fish And Salad From This Beautiful Little Seafood Shop.

Soooooooo Here Is Glen......Sitting On A Stool.......Reading The Local Paper......When..

From The Pub Across The Road.......Comes This 6ft Redneck Type ....About 30.....Reeking Of Beer..And 3 Day Stubble.

[It Was Only 11-30.am]

Places His Order....... Takes A Long Hard Look At The 5 Toerings I Was Wearing...

Then Slowly Walks Over To Me..

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit I Instinctivly Say To Myself....I'm "Petfood" ...

But To My Total Amazment.....He Looks At My Feet......Then Quotes Paul Simon's Song..."Diamonds On The Soles Of My Shoes"...W.T.F.!!!!!..................Then...

Wait For It...........He Then Proceeds To Sing About Half Of The Song (and in perfect tune).

By This Time Not Only Was Glen Bright Red With Embarrasment......

But Was Internally Haemorrhaging..

He Then Proceeds To Ask Was I Familiar With The Point At Which Two Famous Streets In San Fran Intersect..

I Said I Was Not..

He Replied........This Was The Intersection On Which The Song............"If Your Going To San Fran...Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair"Was Based On..

I Told Him This Is One Of My Favourites Of All Time.

So He Then Proceeded To Sing About Half Of The Song (and in perfect tune).

I ASK YOU.......IS HE A LOCAL LEGEND....???

Damned If I Know.....(shrugs)

But What I Do Know Is.....

He Certainly Made My day/month/year...

We've got loads in Oxford. There's the crazy bag lady who just wanders up and down the streets carrying tons of plastic bags full of stuff. And then gets drunk in the pub with her bags. It's sad really.. Then there's a couple of crazy professor types with their grey beards and tweed suits. A crazy Jamaican dude who smokes spliffs non-stop in front of his restaurant, and sings Bob Marley songs. A few old boys who have lived around here forever and are always telling stories about the war and their dog races to anyone who wants to listen. And I'm sure I'm forgetting a few others.. hmmm.

bonnie was born here, but bonnie and clyde both got shot here.

then we have the "bag lady" that doesnt talk to anyone. she has no nose, and wears a huge witch like hat and is supposed to be rich and if you talk to her, she will start peeing or just ignore you. well, that was the legend. but i was working nights at the newspaper, and she would camp outside there. and i gave her cigerettes, newspapers, and would sit and talk to her about all kinds of crazy shit. i told the ppl at the newspaper that i talked to the bag lady, and that her name is arty. and NO ONE believed me. they all felt like asses when they got off work and saw me sitting with her and talking to her

 

In the city, there's this old Indonesian busker guy that plays a little guitar and everytime we walk past him he goes "Pikachu!" with a huge grin on his face.

Heath Ledger grew up around here too, I still drive past his old school from time to time.

 

we had bike man here for years. he considered a shower riding his bike in the rain..

he made his bicycle from scraps,it had all kindsa cool trinkets on it.he used to sit outside the library and ask you if you wanted to go on a trip with him.usually to someplace exotic like africa. if you said yes he would pull out a book and start showing you pictures..

he died a year or so ago now the town has nothing.. they should have taken his bicycle and made a statue of it outside the library..

we do have pocket man.. in the 15 plus years ive been here ive only seen his left hand out of his back pocket twice. but it aint the same....
