Thanks for all the compliments! I really appriciate them, makes me all warm and fuzzy! I do wish I had more time to dye,I love to do them it is a great creative outlet, but I'm a full time student w/ the 3 chilin' children. It was nice for the years I was able to do them, but I need long term, more definate employment (til I become independantly wealthy!) Then you will find me homeschooling the kids on a remote tropical island, making dyes for fun, and lovin' life! How? lotsa practice, trial and error and luck too! Sometimes you know the dye your making is going to be the best you have ever done, and something unknown happens to the dye, or you didnt fold it like you thought,,,,oil rag! Or, your just boppin along, and something incredibly beautiful comes out that you have no clue how to duplicate! It is hard to explain verbally, but most of the symetrical stuff involves folding the fabric in half, draw (like) half a heart (like a valentine, the king you cut out on Valentines day!) , then fold it along the lines, and tie it , using artificial sinew. I think the guy who taught me is making a web site, how to tie dye, place to exchange tips etc,,,Ill see if I can find it and post it here til then..., jen

I have a acquaintence who now exclusively silk paints. She claims she developed cancer from Procion. Lost a breast to it. On the respirator, we run an air cleaner full force when mixing (we mix in baby food jars, and now we have 57 jars in use. I notice very little dye powder in the filter. The spouse has worn a mask during mix befor the air cleaner. It's spotless. No powder on it at all. I would be willing to bet that the soaking in is mor eof a hazard than airborne pollutants. Having said that, I cough in the shop on mix days.
