Our technology is incredibly powerful and elaborate beyond all human imagination, yet our economies and politics are all still based on war. The largest manufactured export of the US is weapons, and the current race for AI and quantum computers has been compared to the Manhattan Project, with some 40% of all Wall Street trades already being done by computers and it already being estimated that virtually every bureaucrat in D.C. can easily and cheaply be replaced by AI. In the midst of all this Three Stooges slapstick and cutthroat poker, violence remains the last resort of the incompetent, which is why it is so common.

Begging the question of why humanity is not already either extinct or trapped in our own Planet of the Apes nightmare.
