Do you think it could be accomplished? How did they ever survive before this invention? Would you be able to do it?
I don't really like phones all that much but these days it is rather important. A month ago my land line was out for a week and I really missed it. I am a caregiver to my elderly father and he could not call me if he needed to. I needed to make an appointment for me to see the doctor and my dog to see the vet. I had to wait till it was fixed or go borrow someone else's phone.
Being stranded on the side of the road at 3 AM on a hot, muggy, August "morning." That's what not having a phone is like.
I am not a fan of phones but I know that to totally eliminate one would be difficult as life gets hectic and a phone does become convenient. With having the kids I know I need to have a phone. I do have the option though of not using it all the time.
I'm bending to the pressure, and today I've been looking at options to finally get an android phone. Haven't yet decided what to go for, but I will over the next few days. Phones are here to stay it seems, as and they have become more multi-functional, even more so. Especially if you're doing any kind of business. Pre mobile phone, those old phone boxes were some of the nastiest environments you could find......usually reeked of nicotine, stale alcohol, urine. The slots would be jammed so the coin wouldn't go in, if you had the right change in the first place. Often been smashed up by vandals. So whatever the drawbacks of the mobile, there are many definite advantages and not purely technological.
i got rid of my cellphone since i rarely used it, and i feel so free! if people absolutely have to get ahold of me, they can call my hubby bubby. he wants me to get a phone again though, for safety....
Although I've always had a cell phone I finally got my first (Android) Smart Phone about a month and a half ago. Have used the GPS during very important, almost emergency situations about three times already.... and really like it for all the things that are more convenient on it.... it's kinda funny now all the things I was missing out on before. Like just being able to listen to whatever music I want to on my phone and being able to look up what stores and restaurants are nearby on vacation at fast speeds.... And many other things... I really so far use the apps and other functions of the phone that aren't texting or calling more than I use the phone for texting or calling. My 3.5 year old already knows how to use it too and knows some apps that even I don't know (he's found drawing apps on there, etc.)
sure. it would be inconvenient and things would change pretty significantly (especially with work in my case), but humans are generally very good at adapting to change, even if they don't like it. and so your people stop calling him looking for you...
Life without phones, sure, no problem considering that is how I lived the first 30+ years of my life. Land lines only with the huge & heavy, murder weapon capable BELL telephones. :2thumbsup: Any one else remember when there was only one phone company...Ma Bell? Same here.
thats cuz a "phone" is really just a computer. it has a processor, runs code, and just so happens to come with the capabilities to make phone calls and send SMS. it really is much closer to "a computer that can make calls" than "a phone that can run computer programs". other computers can make calls and send sms as well with the right software/configuring said software.
I would get laid less. Girls today are so about there phone it sucks. If i don't text or call once i get there umber I'm done with. if you just walk up to there house assuming you know where they live cause you a creep.. Phones are the key... it sucks. Its the only way I can get pussy unless I phone number them first. Then we wake up the next morning and i make coffee and eat bacon. Most people love coffee and bacon.
i've lived without owning one. been more then a year since i had one. i DON'T like/want to, live in a fish bowl. i LIKE being left the hell alone. totally depends on how socially inclined you are. and i'm not. how much it costs to have one is way more then it would be worth to me to do so. once upon a time there were these things called pay phones. that was of course before cellular communications became dominant. there was also something called life-line service, back in the days of land-lines. which i suppose may have motivated communication providers to discourage their use. i see these outfits giving cell phones to the homeless, so i suppose that's something like the same thing.
