https://techxplore.com/news/2019-08-rechargeable-aqueous-battery-lithium-ion-dominance.html Any alternative to li ion batteries would be welcome at this point. Forget about being environmentally unfriendly, they are downright toxic and need to be replaced as soon as possible with a better technology. This is the first serious alternative I've heard of that looks promising, but in the last few years physicists have finally pinned down most of the issues with batteries in general and figured out how to make them much more durable and efficient. What's been holding us back for so long is the fact the US government invested almost nothing in solar power or battery research. Seriously, in recent years someone figured out how to take pictures of a battery's inside at work, someone else figured out the thermodynamics, and so on. Stupid crap that could have been done half a century ago and made all the difference in the world.
