I would never have guessed you were 28 amy! you look about 21! Im 26 this year, im not that far behind ya
Hellodreadhead, yes it really is light for that long. As I said, I'm in the south, so we don't get the actual midnight sun, where it never goes below the horizon, but the sky doesn't get dark. It goes kinda dusky around midnight, and by 2am it's pretty much broad daylight again. It's a bit weird if you're staying up late because it feels all wrong going to bed. Phil...yep I'm always getting told I look younger than I am. Anything from 19 to 22 usually
hahahaha, sorry amyyyyyyy =] its not all mine, since i still live at home with the 'rents. so when i eventually move out ill be starting from scratch =[ im 21 this year! weeeeeeeeeeeeeee =D
Not sure if these images will show coz they're from my Facebook... but this was the midnight sky in early June, with the sun about to rise again. Further north it would be much lighter than this but it's still pretty new to me each year
The winter darkness depends a lot on where you are too. I'm about level with the top of the Shetland Islands, so our winter light is pretty close to Britain's. But yeh, there are areas further north which literally are dark more or less 24/7. Norway is really long. If you rotated it around Oslo, the top of Norway would reach Rome.
You're really lucky to live somewhere like that. Me? I live in Wigan. We're famed for eating pies and Ian McKellen. Awesome Norway facts Amy! Got any more??
Hehe...ummm...oh there's a really long tunnel! lol I think it's the longest road tunnel in the world. Well it's 25km long, and I drove through it, and it's very long! lol Hang on I'll look for links... At 2 or 3 intervals, it opens up into a vast cavern, all lit up with pretty blue and green lights...really magical and amazing. I think it's to alleviate the boredom and confusion of driving in a dark tunnel for so long. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%A6rdal_Tunnel
At the time it came as rather a nasty shock. It was last summer, when I was driving my first ever long trip. I'm not a very experienced driver, and usually just do short easy trips near home. This was hours and hours of quite challenging roads (for me anyway) at speeds much faster than I felt comfortable doing with only a tiny little foot-high barrier stopping me from plummeting down into fjords and things. We had just gone through several long, deep, slopey, winding tunnels, maybe around 7 miles long each I suppose and kinda scary to keep up speed in whilst going down in a deep dark corkscrew.... then we saw a stopping place with a burger bar, but I missed the turning, and then we saw the sign for this 25km tunnel... omg my heart really sank lol. But it was actually surprisingly nice to drive through Lol and that's my boring story
so today I was driving down a busy road and saw a little boy walking by himself From behind he looked about 6 years of age and so after scanning the area for an adult and not seeing one anywhere I freaked cuz no kid should be walking down this crazy busy street alone. I started to pull over to see if he was ok and as I pulled up next to him the dude had a friggin beard and was a total midget! OMG!!!! He even had a pompodore haicut style thing going on and looked like a member of the lolly pop guild from wizard of oz. It was awesome but I felt like a complete douche for pulling over and starring....so the first thing I could think of was to start pretending like I was talking on my cell as the reason for pulling over.....lame. It was so ridiculous and funny. The midget man is my new heroe...he smiled and flashed a peace sign at me.
We have blue sky and sunshine here today, it's already 11 degrees and is supposed to go up as far as 17 degrees today :hurray: I love it, I just stuck my head out of the window and it doesn't feel cold anymore, and there's a different smell and feel to the air :cheers2: Oh and Amy. I think I'd freak out if I had to drive through that tunnel, crazy stuff.
